The Australian clinical trial that you mentioned is outlined here; Alzheimer's trial - Griffith University

It is confined to elderly subjects with late-onset Alzheimer’s Disease. Depending on its results, Etanercept might get regulatory approval here for treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease but I don't know about its possible role in treating hypoxic brain injury.

Its already being used as a stroke treatment in a Florida clinic and the medical trials seem promising. Thanks for the link to the trial. I emailed the USA clinic and received a very quick return call, with an offer of a $USD 500 phone consultation. Think I will cool my heels and do more research first as the treatment is about $USD7000 per injection, plus travel and accomodation. The side effects include immune suppression. Any one else know anything?

I don't know if the "Florida clinic" that you refer to is the "Institute of Neurological Recovery" (Boca Raton, FL Office | Institute of Neurological Recovery).

If so, I would be very cautious about it - Dr Tobinick has several such entities.

In my view he makes a number of unsupported claims about the alleged benefits of Enbrel/Etanercept for a wide range of neurological conditions and charges a lot for this alleged therapy.

You may find this commentary helpful in this context; Enbrel for Stroke and Alzheimer’s << Science-Based Medicine.

Amantadine has been used in some cases and shown benefit. It does not have broad use.
