Default Perivascular Spaces

Has anyone had these noted on their MRI reports? I have a 7mm one that I've been researching the significance of. I was curious if anyone else had these?

Default Virchow-Robin spaces

My son has dilated Virchow-Robin spaces (perivascular spaces). This was found on MRI at age 6. He is on autism spectrum and it appears this is not an uncommon finding in autism and other developmental disorders. All I know is that little is known still about the origin and significance or them being enlarged or prominent. My understanding is that it is usually "age" related so that didn't help me to understand why it happened in children and young adolescents. I looked into it very thoroughly years ago (in the context of autism) but doctors didn't seem at all concerned, in fact they were quite nonchalant about it. There was a new member last week or so in New Members Forum asking about enlarged perivascular spaces as well.

ps. there seems to be a scale of sorts. normal, accentuated and dilated. I've also seen the word prominent used in some studies. Also, "headache" comes up a lot in studies you read. My son had migraines at the time as well although he did grow out of those.

AnnaPanna,

Welcome to NeuroTalk.

I think you may be looking for answers that are not there. The research is still not leading to an understanding of these, just lots of correlation and conjecture. What symptoms or event caused you to get the MRI ?

Hey! I have like muscle shaking, but not like they are shaking all the time, but more like jumping once in a while, like in every 5 minutes or sometimes in every 5 hours, it depends. Just jumping/shaking one movement and that`s it in different places each time, mostly palm, foot (every time different) but this is only when I`m in rest position or calm and just lay or sit. While I`m writing the answer for you it was 0 times. And i even can`t to show it to neurologist, maybe because i cannot be so calm with him. But sometimes my palm or foot jumping more often than other days. I did blood test for vitamin D (i just decided to to it one day) there was deficiency, but not so much.

But im not sure my perivascular space is connected with my palm/foot jumping, it just started in january/february. All i can say i was under big stress lately and maybe somehow my "jumping" is connected with it. of course maybe the stress affected perivascular space and the space do this jumping once in a while. But sometimes i cannot sleep normally because of it

Hey again. I just came back from neurologist. Showed him the mri results. As there wasn't any patalogy he said it is normal that I have this perivascular space. It's just my body feature. And the jumping is not of that, but most likely from the big stress I had and have. She described me noofen(mild medicine for anxiety and nerves)they give it to children as well and vitamin D. Let's try for 2 weeks.
