Default Can I go for runs now?

Hey guys, so it's been about a year from my last concussion that gave me really bad PCS. I still have the symptoms, but I've learned to cope with them better. I was wondering if I'd be able to go for runs/jogs by now? Is it too jumpy? I know when I work out, I feel kind of dizzy for a while after so. But that could just be from getting my heart rate up and getting tired. Will jogging/running mess with my healing process? Should I still stick to stationary biking for now? Thanks guys.

Nobody can predict how you will respond to running. Most try to slowly and cautiously return to such activities. I suggest running with foam ear plugs so you can learn to adjust your gait to minimize the impact of each foot-fall. With the ear plugs, you will hear the impacts.

Try it and find out.

I find when I get really winded I experience symptoms but I am not sure if it is necessary to get my heart rate up as much as I do at times...at 57 I still compete with myself.

1. Try a little run first.

2. Try it on a Friday afternoon when you have the weekend to observe.

3. I still can't run without an incline, the incline makes less impact and no headache. Flat ground equals headaches.

I will say that for me, I found out the hard way about exercise. Pushing myself to the max (for a road race) put me back with the exact same symptoms I had a few weeks after concussion, and those symptoms lasted quite a while.

Now I have gradually worked my way back into getting used to running. I don't push myself for a race much more than the pace where I train at.

I hope that you are able to get back to doing something you love. I just suggest you be smart about it.
