kanedenmk,

Welcome to NeuroTalk.

Head aches can last a long time for a couple of reasons. The most common reason and the one that is treatable is an upper neck injury or subtle neck injury. They do not show up on imaging but a good physical therapist, physiotherapist, or chiropractor can often help.

Some gentle traction and mobilization can help the vertebra settle back into proper position. It also takes discipline to sleep and rest with good straight head and neck posture.

A common symptom of an upper neck injury is tenderness to pressure at the bony spot behind and below the ears. This is often a result of muscle spasms from the neck injury.

Some have inflammation that can be resolved with anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin, ibuprophen, or acetaminophen/paracetamol. It takes consistent dosing all day to get enough effect. Try to avoid anything stronger.

Some find an anti-inflammatory diet helps or at least removing items from their diet that causes inflammation. Google anti-inflammatory diet.

My best to you.
