Default objects coming close to my head

I am having this problem for some time and I can't seem to overcome it: whenever something is close to my head (within, say, a foot), I get pretty extreme anxiety attacks afterward with the thought process "did it hit me? did it not hit me?" I attempt to convince myself that if it did hit me, I would have felt it but then I reason that one of my concussion injuries involved LOC so how do I know that didn't happen this time? Also because of the startle or anxiety response it generates the entire event doesn't appear perfectly clear in my memory when I try to think about it again to calm myself.

Anyway, this is proving to be a big problem as I even have anxiety when leaving the house in fear of these events. I hope this post makes sense... any ideas on how to overcome this?

I am very careful when I'm moving on my own and move slowly.. all of these events are caused by other people bringing something close to my head (a bag, their elbow, etc.)

Hi,

I've had PCS for about 2 and a half years, and I still get that exact kind of anxiety all the time. Sometimes I even find myself retracing my steps and other unnecessary things just to see if I did indeed get hit. That might not be helpful to hear, but at least know that you're not alone.

For me, the only thing I can really tell myself is that I've never had a hit to the head that's caused symptoms of more than two days where I didn't know the cause. Basically, every time my head gets hit in a way that will cause real symptoms, I know right away, and it feels different than the ghost feelings and symptoms that often come up when you speculate about whether you got hit or not. The head is sensitive, and has your ears and eyes: if you got hit there, you'd know it

I've dealt with this as well, and I think still have this fear but it's not as bad as it used to be.
It sounds bad but I think the only thing that helped me, was getting hit in the head a couple times last year and realizing that it's not affecting me except for initial anxiety. When I say getting hit, I mean very light hits, like my girlfriend grazing my head accidentally in the pool or lightly bumping into a kitchen cabinet.
I'm still trying to be aware of what's going on around me, for example, while at the beach I pay close attention to kids that are kicking/throwing soccer balls around, and if I can, I'll move away from them. It makes me mad sometimes at myself that instead of relaxing I'm constantly looking for these things, but I guess it comes with an injury like this, not much you can do about it, since it is a real danger that if someone kicks a ball and it hits your head, it will most likely be bad news for me.

12/02/2012 - Light concussion at boxing practice. Ended up having PCS for about 3 months.
March 2013 - Thought that since most of my symptoms resolved I could start having fun again.
Went snowmobiling once (didn't hit my head) and concussion symptoms returned and got even worse than before.
June 2013 - accidentally bumped my head against a deck railing, and had a month-long setback.
November 2013 - drove to work after a big snowstorm and the roads were very rough, ended up having another setback.
2014 - Having setbacks after coughing/sneezing too much, or someone slapping me on the back, or any other significant jarring.
Feb 2014 - Started seeing Atlas Orthogonal chiro - most helpful doc so far.
June 2014 - Two months of physical/visual therapy - no noticeable improvement.
September 2014 - Diagnosed with Perilymph Fistula in right ear.
November 2014 - Fistula surgery (switched to left ear before the surgery after additional testing).
January 2016 - Quit work to "work" on figuring out PCS, so far it seems that eyes/vision issues are the most contributing factor, especially computer work.

Current symptoms are: inconsistent sleep patterns, headaches, vertigo/dizziness, anxiety/panic attacks, mental fog/problems with concentration, problems with computer screens.

I experience the same things. Everywhere I go, I look around first if there is something that could come close to my head. I avoid places with lot's of people because I am scared that an elbow or so could touch my head.
I got PCS since almost three years now and the anxiety does not get better.
