Default Fish Oil - Nordic Naturals

For those of you that take fish oil, do you find that the more expensive brands work better? I've read triglyceride is more bioavailable, and Nordic Naturals is the brand Dr. Michael Lewis recommends. Vitacost.com currently has a sale on Nordic Naturals fish oils if interested. NN Ultimate Omega fish oil is supposedly the highest absorbed form.

Thanks!

New research shows that the absorption advantage of the triglyceride form is significant—up to 70% more than ethyl esters.
So, if you find a good value on a triglyceride form of fish oil, it should be as good as it gets. But, if the triglyceride form costs more than 70% as much as the ethyl ester form, the extra cost is not worth it.
But, remember, the research says 'up to 70% more.' That leaves a lot of wiggle room. What other factors contribute to that 70% more ? I remember reading that the foods consumed at or near the same times as the fish oil can change how the fish oil is absorbed.

Thanks for the response, Mark!

Good points. I still have a few bottles of Vitacost's fish oil left, but I will post my experiences with the Nordic Naturals in a few months.

Thanks for the info. Fish oils are an invaluable supplement for PCS recovery.

Do either of you know if one form is at a greater risk of oxidation than the other? Or, is one form more stable than the other? Fish oils oxidize easily which makes them toxic, negating any of the benefit.

Fishing for answers: is oxidation of fish oil supplements a
problem?

It is usually recommended to store liquid fish oil in the refrigerator, tightly capped. The individual brand and bottle should have instructions about shelf life. Heat is not good for any supplement.
