Angry New to this

Hi

I’ve literally just been told yesterday I have pcs don’t really think he knew what else to say to me I’m sure they think I’m crazy he was trying to ask me if I was stressed and have a stressful job which I always find patronising.

So why am I here?

I guess for reassurance that I’m not crazy or having some sort of breakdown.

I literally banged my head on the corner of a velux window opening yes it made me cry but it didn’t knock me out it didn’t break the skin, everyone has hit there head at some stage in a similar fashion. So why me... why am I here three weeks later still in bed still not functioning in life... how on earth can that knock cause this???

I just want to scream and shout or sit and cry the frustration is so hard to deal with I’m 34 I’m a finance director and a Mum to 4 year old so my life is go I go to the gym 3/4 times a week I work 24/7 and the rest is nursery runs and time with my little lady. So needless to say I’m not coping with this very well if I’m ill I always ride through it I’m not a person that has time to be ill.

So yes I banged my head three weeks ago went straight to bed feeling sick and dizzy and from there didn’t move 5 days I’m my face on one side went numb swollen so I took myself to the doctor who sent me for a ct scan.

Confusion over the ct first doc came and told me there was a bruise a cross the back of my brain and he thought I would be kept in and sedated. Next doctor walks in concussion your fine go home 10 days you’ll be sorted.

Day 15 felt abit better got up managed day with my daughter we baked we made Xmas decorations felt fine great all gone I thought.... no back in bed day after. Thought the next day I have to go to work so got someone to drive me went into office sat in meetings so not even computer work got abit muddled with things struggled to articulate myself said something like “clear as mustard” which everyone thought hilarious. That night back in a&e in agony from there I had MRI bloods all back clear yesterday and that’s the answer PCS.

In bed again today missing family time dads taking little one out for the day I obviously get to stay at home in bed!!!

At what stage does this get better because I don’t want to accept 3-6 months maybe more... I kind of need a cure now

M1a1983.

Welcome to NeuuroTalk.

I'm sorry to hear you are struggling so. Concussions can be miserable.

Currently, you are recovering from a concussion. PCS is a diagnosis that is a month down the road. Yeah, docs don't usually know much about concussions. Post concussion syndrome is saved for those who do not recover in the first 6 to 8 weeks. 85% do recover by 6 weeks or so.

Stay out of bed except for normal sleep time. Bed rest at this point in your recovery will only delay your recovery. Try to find low stress activities to keep your mind busy. It needs to be stimulated so blood flows and helps the healing.

The numb and swollen face is not common. How does your neck feel?

Help me understand your injury. Did you stand up under the window and smack the back or side of your head?

Other than the speaking challenges that are common to concussions, what other symptoms are you having?

Many concussions come with a subtle neck injury. It is similar to a whiplash injury. This can cause numbness and a myriad of symptoms. It is important to sleep with good head and neck posture. You want to maintain a straight neck. No bent, tilted or twisted neck positions, especially during sleep. If the neck is stiff, a physiotherapist or chiropractor who uses gentle techniques can often help.

So, find some simple activities. Read to your daughter. Do any manual tasks, games, knitting, crocheting, art, etc. Expect to struggle in a work situation where there are lots of voices. More than one or two voices can be over-stimulating and stressful. Some use foam earplugs to reduce sound stimulation so they can focus on a task.

Take short, frequent breaks if you need to work on the computer. I know of a computer app that will tell you it is break time after 25 minutes. It works with Firefox Quantum browser and is called Tomato Clock.

Give yourself a break. Try to accept that you may feel lousy. Try not to fight against it. Stressing out is the best way to slow your recovery.

In time, you will start to feel and do better.

My best to you.

I’d love to get out of bed but find even the smallest of tasks hard

The bang was on the top of head just to the left hand side of the centre line towards the back, nothing extraordinary at all.

Symptoms are really sore eyes more so on left hand side but both they go bloodshot as soon as I do too much but generally just feel sore / dey all day can’t watch tv or computer screens focus is hard. Main issue is been so sensitive to lights the second I get in bright lights it’s like a bomb going off in the side of my head and eyes it reduces me to tears.

The feeling sick and dizziness is getting better but kicks in when I get up

The headache on my left temple is excruciating

I’ve been having numbness all down the right side of my face feels like it’s swelling up this happens when I overdo it and get up

My teeth top and bottom just left hand side are agony when I eat or drink

Feel slow, struggle to talk find words take large pauses to try get my mind on track

I feel like every day is a real struggle I try get up have a bath and get dressed but that pretty much wiped me out, I went to a cafe today for a coffee within minutes of sitting down I felt so bad we had to leave I haven’t driven a car since I physically couldn’t

It appears you may be in the UK. If so, maybe Headway can refer you to someone who has a better understanding of your needs. Headway - the brain injury association | Headway

You may have an injury to the facial or trigeminal nerves. Chapter 5: Facial sensations & movements

Is there a Neuro Rehabilitation Hospital and Clinic near you? They usually have the specialists that can help.

What about your neck? The subtle neck injuries are not usually painful but they usually respond to ice or anti-inflammatory meds, ibuprofen, aspirin, etc. Neck inflammation even without pain can cause many of the symptoms you are experiencing.

It is important to not sleep during the day. It is the wrong like of sleep. The brain only heals during proper quality sleep with all of the stages that happen at night. Finding very simple tasks like sitting in a chair doing something with your hands will stimulate blood flow to your brain.

Read the Vitamins sticky at the top. The important supplements are high dose B-12, normal doses of the rest of the Bs ( a stress multi vitamin is often good, depending on brand) Omega 3 fish oil, D-3, calcium w/ magnesium, and others on the list as you can.

It takes time but finding the source of your face numbness is important.

M1

I said the same thing...I need a cure now!

You'll be a lot better off to realize sooner than later that brain healing doesn't listen to our timetables.

You are not going nuts, it's common to miss family activities and you aren't lazy for doing such. It seems to be much easier to say "I can't , my leg is broken" than it is to say "my head is healing". There is nothing obvious about a head injury such as yours and fear of your family, friends and yourself thinking you are lazy becomes a great obstacle, been there! You and they will have to accept just as a broken leg you have had an injury that must heal.

Pay attention to your body, it will give you early signs of over activity, do what you can and nothing more.

Eventually you will notice you are doing more than last week and feeling better.

I’ve googled but can’t find much about toothache seems random but so far all my systems have been abit random so I’m not sure

M1,

I was hit on the left side of my head in an accident.

There is a line down the middle of my head also where it gets sore.

Just told the dentist yesterday that my left upper teeth have not been sore for a few months now...3 years of sore upper left molars.
