Default Lithium, nerve regeneration, plasticity, depression

I was speaking with my Psy about depression and he mentioned Lithium as being proven to have positive effect on brain plasticity and was wondering whether there are studies for TBI, and there is.
A new avenue for lithium: intervention in traumatic brain injury. - PubMed - NCBI
You will find much more if you search for Lithium and the above properties.
Thoughts? Anyone took Lithium?

I would definitely have jumped the gun (my depression is quite bad) but it is know to affect the Thyroid, in which case some supplements are given, but I am afraid whether these symptoms are reversible (my Psy assures me they are)

Would very much appreciate thoughts.
