Default Hit on the head with basketball

Hey everyone, so it's been about a year since my initial cpncussion, followed by a few taps here and there, also I've been sober and focused on healing for a month now. I've been feeling a lot better, more intelligent, happier, etc. recently.

However, yesterday I was playing basketball with my friend and I was dribbling by the hoop when he shot an air ball that hit straight on the side of my head. It sort of hurt and dazed me but more than anything I was immediately overwhelmed with anxiety over the possibility of sustaining ANOTHER *** ****concussion. Always by the hand of one of my idiot friends.

Anyways, no headaches afterwards (I've never had ANY headaches following hits to my head, what does this mean?) mainly just anxiety and fatigue, however I was tired before the blow. Now, the next day, I simply feel sad, unmotivated, unintelligent, spacey, foggy, irritated, and reclusive. Just like my other concussions. I've controlled my anxiety as I know that it is detrimental to progress, and yes I know to take it easy and cease participation in "high risk" situations such as jokingly shooting around at the basketball court.

I will eat healthy, rest, drink water, take vitamins, etc. but I am wondering if it is possible that I did indeed get another concussion from being hit with a stray basketball. I recall this happening somewhat often in my younger days and I thought nothing of it. Why am I not getting any headaches at all? Is it another concussion? If so have I done serious damage at this point? Will I regain my personality? I really worry for the sake of not only my intellectual pursuit and future but for my sanity and emotional stability as well. Please, please offer any advice as I am in serious need for some. Thank you

Since this hit just happened yesterday I would take it easy and allow some time before thinking anything seriously major happened.

Perhaps journal or jot some notes , how you feel each day.

But basketballs can be hard and hit with some force so a little bit of concern & awareness is totally reasonable.

Hi jajaa,

I think that anyone who thinks they've sustained a concussion or a 2nd concussion should have a check up with their doctor or at a hospital.

I'm aware that not everyone thinks that, but I do.

We can't tell you if you've sustained a concussion on the internet. At least if you're not feeling better soon, it would really be worth a check with your doctor and then it's on record as well.

Rest up.

If you do not manifest any symptoms, it would not fit any diagnostic standards for a concussion. Learn from it as far as what risks you are willing to take on, i.e. playing basketball which is considered a contact sport. Many concussion happen when a player comes up under another players chin or otherwise hit heads with another player.

So I've been trying to work on a paper for school tonight and I can't focus on it for more than five minutes at a time without becoming frustrated and then anxious at the validation that I am having symptoms from the hit on Sunday. Again, no headaches, simply irritability, lack of motivation, and brain fog. Have I done damage? Is this damage reversible

Sorry to hear about your recent struggles. I can definitely relate to your situation.

No one can answer those questions for you. Not until more medical research on concussions is done. For now you should learn a lesson to stay away from contact sports.

You may have to take a break from school until your symptoms clear. Or it could just be your anxiety but it seems like some real symptoms.

Take care and hope you feel better soon.

For school, perhaps a note from your dr explaining the problem, and requesting more time to get the work handed in...
Do you see/ have the same dr for the prior concussion?

Default Hello Jajaa

I know exactly how you feel since this has happened to me a lot of times. Everytime i get hit in the head (even very slightly) i tend to become very anxious about it and that worsens my initial symptoms.
Luckily, symptoms do not worsen from the hit itself and i tend to get better longterm even though i hit my head lightly here and there.
Best of luck,
Jones

Unhappy You can recover easily

Hey man, I don’t think this moment could get any better. I’m in high school as well and I had a pretty bad concussion from playing football in elementary. Since I didn’t think a concussion was a possibility i didn’t heal. During the two years after I endured pure hell. I was foggy, spaced out, confused, and ******* ******. Sounds pretty familiar right? I also fell into a deep depression because of this which was not fun. My personality changed a bit also. I also did get a few taps or bumps on the head which didn’t help at all.

I’ve been on many forums before but I’m glad I ran into this one. For a few months i’ve Practically been symptom free but today I was playing basketball in gym and a ball came out of nowhere and got me in the head. I just felt a little tingle when it hit but I didn’t feel much pain. As I usually would I would get foggy or get a headache. But I’m probably good and so are you due to the fact that the brain must actually shake and hit the skull in order to receive a concussion.

Here are some big tips for helping your symptoms dramatically. SLEEP! I’m not going to say it again. You must need have it, it is essential to reducing the spaced out/trapped inside your head/foggy feeling. I find that if I sleep consistently at the same time no longer than 8 hours it gradually disappears over about a month. BUT WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT TRY TO PUSH THROUGH! I’f you try to ignore and push through your symptoms (like I did, and immediately regret) you will prolong your recovery time significantly (I’m talking years).

WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS!
