Crazy 3rd Concussion MVA flying two weeks after concussion

Hello am new here and would like to explain my concussion history. Have been struggling with depression ever since my MVA and am feeling pretty upset about my multiple head injuries. First concussion Nov 2015 I hit my head on metal railing on bus. CT was fine. Headaches and nausea lasted a few months.

Second concussion from rollercoaster Oct 2017 nausea and headaches as well as neck pain.

Exposed to carbon monoxide poisoning Feb 2018 at an airbnb. This produced similar symptoms to PCS such as headaches and nausea especially when doing mental tasks and trying to concentrate. School was a struggle but my symptoms got better in April.

May 10 I recently got in a MVA. I was turning and car drove into my passenger side. Did not hit my head or pass out but the whiplash apparently was the culprit behind my concussion and also neck injury. First week lots of headaches and nausea and second week nerve pain and head pressure showed up. A lot of my symptoms are left sided, left side of head random pressure, tingling in face, arm down to waist. Headaches all over head. Some left ear pain as well.
Car rides produce some uncomfortable headaches but nothing excruciating and I can’t for the life of me use a computer or read so had to take another week off work. The nerve pain/tingling gets worse when I lay down, seeing a Neurologist tomorrow. The ER doctor I saw my second time doesn’t believe I should expose myself to another CT based on my symptoms but ultimately says it’s up to me.. I’ve had 3 total, 2 when I was a teenager. I am 26 years old.
Has anyone in this forum used CBD oil for their pain?
I also have a flight coming up exactly two weeks since my accident and would hate to cancel, it’s only a 1.5 hr flight. /:

rydia,

Welcome to NeuroTalk.

Unless the rollercoaster concussion included a severe impact, I think you should consider your symptoms were due to neck injury issues. Many of your current symptoms are also likely due to neck injuries. The subtle neck injuries that many experience do not image on X-rays or CT Scans. But, the instability causes inflammation that disrupts brain blood flow and nerve function.

Finding a therapist for your neck would be worthwhile. An upper cervical chiropractor or other chiro who uses gentle techniques, a physical therapist who understands subtle neck injuries and doe snot push you for range of motion improvements or an osteopath may be able to help you.

It is also important to learn proper posture during sleep and rest. This is when a lot of strain and inflammation happens.

Did you get any Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for the carbon monoxide poisoning?

Hello Mark!

My PCP also wants to get me started on Physical Therapy but has been lagging on the referal.. /: Thanks for the insight I unfortunately was shrugging off the neck injury because the headaches and nausea were so debilitating at first. I have noticed my neck is much stiffer and is painful to turn.

I have noticed my sleeping position is very important! The past night I slept very well thankfully and didn’t have much tingling or pain at all. The neurologistI saw said the nerves were fine and said the visit was more so just the EMG and results of EMG so she didn’t really know my health history and couldn’t consult me to clear me to fly. She did say that in her opinion flying should be fine for me since I have been nervous about it.

I unfortunately did not get Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy after my poisoning because at first the firefighters weren’t sure what had caused us to feel the way we did since upon initial inspection the CO levels were not high at all. They later found out that any source of hot water was releasing incomplete combustion which was the culprit from the tankless water heater. Also bad on my part I assumed since the EMTs didn’t see anything alarming upon inspection I didn’t go to the hospital right away. It’s a very big regret that I hold for not being more adamant about seeing a doctor after the incident. ):

When you see a PT, try to avoid letting the PT push for full range of motion but rather gentle mobilization.

A study suggests that even delayed HBOT after CO poisoning is worthwhile.
