Hi everyone,
in the vitamin sticky Mark emphasized the effectiveness of Curcumin. On Wikipedia, studies are quoted which found no clinical evidence and stated a rather poor bio-availability. Could someone please shine some light on this issue? Thank you in advance. |

I would do a little more googling on the effectiveness of curcurim. I have found great results with taking 1200 mg a day (clearer head/focus). Also, it has made my stomach less sensitive (not sure why lol).

Ordinary curcumin does have poor bioavailability. However, there are various formulations or additives that measurably increase bioavailability. Classically, pepper (e. g. bioperine) is added and achieves marginal improvement. It's cheap and extremely common.
Theracumin is a nanoparticular form that is significantly more bioavailable. I purchase this for myself. (I don't have a TBI or PCS.) Longvida is another additive that increases bioavailability. There's some study that shows curcumin with Longvida crosses the blood brain barrier. I personally purchase Now Foods Curcubrain for my brain injured fiance. Meriva is another additive shown to improve bioavailability. I want to say I read it's much better than pepper, but not as effective as Theracumin or Longvida. I am not aware of any scientific study comparing the bioavailability of each, but I did read a site awhile ago analyzing what data is available and drawing the conclusions I mentioned above. |

I took a strong and bioavailability-enhanced curcumin about 3 weeks after a severe concussion in an auto accident. A short time thereafter, I collapsed and lost consciousness (I think - I was alone and recall is compromised). I thought I was dying because of the way I felt in my brain. I expect that my blood brain barrier was physically altered from the accident and head injury. I have been scared to use turmeric much thereafter.
