Default Concussions 8 years ago. Minor bumps brings back symptoms

Hi,

I am happy to have just found these forums. I suffered 3 concussions between 2009 and 2012 (2 from sports and 1 from being hit by a drunk driver).Over the last 7 years or so if I get a minor bump to the head or jolt to the body it can send me right back to PCS or at least that’s what it feels like it does. The symptoms all come back and last anywhere from weeks or even 6+ months sometimes depending on the severity of the bump. Small bumps such as my small child accidentally head butting me can set it off for weeks.

Once it all finally calms down I am able to jog and do some light exercise and that is ok. Nothing too strenuous though. I recently had a nice long streak of no issues (and to clarify-that doesn’t mean feeling 100%-I don’t think I’ll ever feel 100% again), maybe even a whole year, and I was getting back into good physical shape and health again finally, and then this past week I got a really hard bump from my child and my symptoms are back with full force. I’m so depressed and upset that I can’t stand it. Bad headaches, dizziness, pulsing pressure, strange electrical/tingling feelings that shoot through my scalp and neck, it’s just awful. This one feels like it’s goig to last months. I can usually predict right away if It will last around a week or months.

I would really love to talk to someone that has this same condition. I don’t personally know anyone that has this issue, so there’s no one I can talk to about it or get advice from. My doctors basically have no answers for me after years of tests. I feel like I’m at my tipping point. I don’t think anyone truly believes me concerning my problem. It is so frustrating. I feel like my boss doesn’t believe me. I feel like none of my friends believe me. Worst of all, I feel like my wife doesn’t even believe me, at least she certainly doesn’t understand the severity of this and just how difficult it makes my daily life. Please, if anyone has this same problem could you offer me any advice or anything you have found useful in your struggle? Is there something I could do outside of rest and slow recovery? I’ve tried just pushing through it and exercising anyway before, as I know exercise is ultimately good for our brains, but that only makes it worse until it is totally gone again. Does anyone have any other ideas or things that work for them? Pharmaceuticals? Alternative therapies?
Thanks for reading, I hope that wasn’t too lengthy.

Hi and welcome! This is a really supportive place with a lot of knowledgable folks that have gotten myself and many others through tough times.

I don’t have any answers for you because I’m going through something very similar myself. I felt about 90% healed and sustained a minor bump that has left me back at square one for almost two weeks now. I’m pushing through work but that’s about all i can do - dizziness, foggy, blurry vision, headaches, etc

I did go to my neuro yesterday and because of the symptoms we are treating it as a concussion and I’m back to vestibular therapy for eye nystagmus??? I think that’s what you call it? Anyway. Just know you’re not alone in this.

I’m sure others will chime in with advice here, but pcs is so isolating sometimes it feels good to know that you’re not alone.

I have the same issues and I am 4 years out. It certainly stinks having to go through it, but I realize things could be a lot worse! I had whiplash to go with my concussion to the temple, so sometimes sleeping in a bad position seems to set me off. I too have found that running seems to make matters worse, which prior to this, was my escape.
I have found that CBD oil does allow me to sleep, whereas before I couldn't buy sleep. Getting 7-8 hours of sleep will help me!
I'm 55, and figure that I am what I am at this point, but I always believe things will get better. We have to make the best of it no matter what!

I have this. Same thing - I think it's gone and then I run and jump too much.

I think of it like this:

Picture a pure glass globe. Imagine that it had a significant impact. It didn't shatter, but there are cracks that need to be fixed.

I think of our brains like this post-concussion. Like there are micro-cracks that need to be put back together. For a lot of us, our original concussion may not have anatomically fully healed and that is why symptoms come back.

I've found certain things help. Diet is huge. PEMF, LLLT, and certain supplements help.

I saw a Matrix Repatterning doc for a while. He said sometimes it is the impacts to the skull that changes it's shape and alters brain function as well. He said where my impacts were, my skull was like a coconut and it should have a little softness like a cantoloup to better allow absorbing impacts better. I frankly never finished treatments. Winter driving is dangerous here and he was expensive.

Thanks for the response! Did those treatments seem to help at all before you quit going to them?

I have found LLLT to be huge for my brain - not just the sensitivity. I have a powerful light that I got on amazon for $30-40.

Cold showers help a lot. Acupuncture too. I do self-acu with tooth picks. Now I do not go deep keep in mind. I get spots in the skull that release some intracranial pressure.

Self massage on the skull is helpful too. There are lots of sore spots that you will find if you try it out. Work them out. Matrix Re-patterning probably is really helpful, but I didn't stick it out. I feel like my brain had other things going on that made it hard to notice.

PEMF is huge for the sensitivty too. I have a micropulse device that helps, but I'm making my own high powered one soon. I have most of then parts, but now I need to figure out how to put it all together (having no previous electrical skills and knowledge).

A must is reducing EMFS. My brain is totally different since keeping Wi-Fi off at home and using my phone minimally. Keep it on airplane or off if you can.

Is your LLLT a laser or LED?

Unfortunately, I have no answers for you but just wanted to show support. I won't go on about myself but have been in a similar situation for the past couple of years. Every time I bump my head and slip back into the same weakened state it's beyond disappointing. I am so sorry for your pain, and I hope those around you can begin to understand what you're going through. Just wanted to say stay strong, and I hope you find answers.

Hi, hopefully this is helpful. I have the same thing, and I've been told it's migraine related (I don't get severe headaches, so I was skeptical...apparently you don't have to get headaches to have migraine). There's a lot of meds that can supposedly decrease your sensitivity. Might be worth checking out this site and seeing if your symptoms match: **
