My main sport is baseball so my eyes are pretty important in most of my endeavors in life. I recently had a concussion about 3 months ago and feel like I have made some progress in terms of healing. However, I realize that most people have vision problems after their concussion and was wondering if I should go get my eyes checked. I do have OCD so is this just a meaningless concern or something that I should invest my time into looking at further. My eyes feel relatively normal besides the fact that I have trouble reading. I just want to make sure my eyes are in the best position possible for the upcoming baseball season. What should I do? What symptoms did you have that led you to get your eyes checked?

So a neuro optomologist is the first person I should go to if I have concerns? Even out of the vestibular and vision therapists and just striaght up optomologists?

A regular optomoligist makes glasses...It was a wast of time for me..A neuro will deal with how the brain and eyes work together...It was my neuro Optomoligist that gave me tests and then the prescription to get further vestibular testing.

It was he that diagnosed that I am losing the vision in my right eye because of damage on the left side of my brain.

I suggest give a few offices a call, get their input...I lived in a large city and they are hard to find....Not impossible tho.

they are called Ophthalmologists! and yes, they are the ones to see. they will do tests to see how well your eyes work together. and from there, it will be decided if you need visual therapy. plus they can determine if there are any problems on the 'eye ball' end of the connection line or the 'brain end' of the line. and they could give you all the recommendations you need, in terms of specialists or specialty clinics.

I just started with Ophthalmology last week, and the initial appt was about 2 hours!

Do not waste a bunch of money and effort with a neuro-ophthalmologist.

A behavioral optometrist would be better. Some times they call themselves rehabilitation optometrists. Check out NORA for a referral.

BUT, NO. Most concussed people do not need vision therapy.

If they have balance issues, a vision assessment might be worthwhile.

btw, I say a neuro-ophthalmologist yesterday for a vision processing issue. He said that my struggles are not treated by neuro-ophthalmologists.

Put on a batting helmet and go to the batting cage. See how your eyes do.

I would try behavioral optometrist as well. Some have vision therapy. There are also eye exercises online for tracking.

Most division 1 and pro sports trainers now start vision therapy immediately as part of concussion protocols. A quick check of your convergence would give you an idea...You do a convergence test by holding up a pen or a finger at an extended arms length in front of your nose. Slowly bring your finger in towards your nose until you see double. If you convergence is normal, your finger will be 2 inches or less in front of your nose. Abnormal convergence will be farther out. This is a sure sign you need some vision therapy.

I have been struggling with an eye strain and pain myself.. seems to stick around ; anyone else with this not going away issue? What do you do ? Will it get better?
