Hi everyone, I have just joined this forum. I think this is the place for some answers for me. I fell on my birthday in May and landed on the back of my head. I was unconscious for around 2 minutes or so I was told. I don't remember any on this. Got up the next morning went to church, started getting dizzy when standing up to sing, still not knowing what had happened. When I got back to my sisters, she asked how I was feeling and I said "did something happen because I am really dizzy", she then told me my bar stool fell backwards with me and it was probably about a 5 foot fall. She said I was pushing myself back to get up and the bar stool was only balanced on 1 leg and I went over. This was at her house, after a bridal shower. Then I started getting nausuase and vomiting. Went to bed, and the next morning I had a black eye, which scared us since I hit the back of my head not the front. So off to the emergency room, had the ct scan which they said was normal but Dr. said I had a moderate to severe concussion. I took it easy for 3 days then came home. I never had a bad headache, but noticed I could'nt smell anything! And I still can't. It has been almost 3 months, and so I can't taste much either. I still get dizzy and have had 3 really angry outburst to my husband which is just not like me at all. Sorry this is long, but I don't know if I should see a doctor or just wait for everything to get better.
Thanks for listening,
Roni

Roni, you should definitely go see a neurologist the first chance that you get. If there's one thing you can learn from looking through the pages on this site, it's that sitting around and not getting any medical attention at all is just not an effective way to get better.

It's great that your CT scans came back clear, so you know that there's no permanent damage to your brain. That said, your brain may need some help to get itself back to where it's supposed to be, so please get back in to see your doctor, it's something you couldn't possibly regret.

I would also suggest you go see the neurologist or doctor. Are you having trouble with dizziness, or fatigue. Or anything else other than the outburst toward your husband. I can tell you why its your husband that you have them with though. Its because you feel safe having them with him, you know that he understands and he is okay with you having them to a degree.

And that he will let you blow off steam and you will then be able to cool off and slow down and then be calm again. But the thing is it will start to go to other people that you wont be able to control who you have them with.

There are probably little signs of headaches in your head that you don't realize you are having when you have these little things too. And pressure behind your eyes or things like this. I would start to keep a like diary of changes that are happening to make you feel things.

So maybe you can feel the changes that are happening so you can explain them.

Thumbs up

Thank you McGee and Donna for your great answers. I would like to know if either of you lost your sence of smell and taste. This is the 5th blow to the head I have had in my life and I am wondering if the results are progressive. I am 56 and 3 of them happened in childhood and one about 10 years ago. I will make an appointment to see a neurologist and go from there. I am just so happy to find someone to talk to about this.
Thank you again,
Roni

No I haven't lost my sense of smell or taste as far as I know. But My taste is something that I honestly like mainly blan things. SO its a hard one to say.

I would also wonder if maybe you are having issues with that part of your brain. And that is why you have lost those particular senses.

Its kind of like with me I have central abnormalities. So I have issues with my balance, so I have lots of problems with my sight so I've adapted to making sure that I use my hearing sense more.

Not sure though.
