Hi all,
I am a 64 yo male with underlying health problems. I became dehydrated about 4 weeks ago and passed out. When I woke up I was laying on the concrete floor with a brush burn on my forehead. Went to dr. 2 days later only to find out about the dehydration and the symptoms I was having was the result of a severe concussion. I have read a ton of these posts on the issue, but I find something different than the ones I have read. I have been getting more and more symptoms as time passes. The biggest difference is with my dreams. I have normally had vivid dreams, almost nightly until my fall. For 4 weeks I had no dreams. Last night I had a black and white dream. Nothing bad, but a dream. This today my headache is 3 time worse. Does anyone know of another person with this situation? Does anyone know if dreaming may cause the brain to not relax? |

Other than being correct about dehydration, it is near impossible to class a concussion as severe when you already lost consciousness.
Doctors do not have tests to determine concussion severity until your GCS, Glasco Coma Score, is impacted. It does not matter anyway. You don't treat a concussion. You treat symptoms of a concussion. Your dream irregularities could be because your sleep has been disrupted. What are the 'more and more symptoms as time passes' ?

My temples are now tender to the touch and feel sort of achy. I buzzed my hair as I felt as though my hair was causing pain. It feels like my calves get goose bumps when I rub my scalp. I can no longer wear my hearing aids as I cannot stand sounds. I started this strange movement with my jaw and teeth. These are some of the symptoms that showed up around week 3.
I thought things would get better with time, but it seems to actually be getting worse. A little history. I have arthritis, degenerative disk disease, two sets of bak cages in my lower spine, two partial laminectomy's in the cervical spine. three times torn rotator cuff tears, and the list goes on. I was doing rather well before this happened. I am retired and was working part time. Was building a garage to house a 36 ft. motorhome. I was used to working and enjoyed it! I appreciate your comments and all feed back. I am hear to learn!! THANK YOU |

What if it wasn't dehydration but rather a dehydration triggered mini-stroke? Dehydration causes thick blood that can stick in the blood vessels in the brain.
Looking up can cause plaques in the arteries to the brain to break loose. Sore spots on the scalp/skin mean nothing other than an irritation to that surface skin and nerves. You may have cause inflammation in your neck that is causing nerve sensations in your legs. Stay hydrated and try to get on with your life.

I am getting on with life. I am still building a garage I was working on before this happened. I did not stop living, just changed the speed at which I live it!
I am just trying to understand why I feel the way I do and trying to better myself. Thank you for your information! |

Thanks Jo*mar, You are thinking the same as the Dr. I just had x-rays yesterday.
They cannot do an MRI on my lower spine due to Metal implants, but they are looking at it. I will keep all up to date as I receive results. I have been trying to limit my time on my computer and on things that generate a lot of thinking. The last two days have not been very good. I am thinking it may be because I have been driving to these appointments. This morning is better and I have a full day scheduled grocery shopping and mowing the lawn! ![]() |

Rockhead,
It is odd that your metal implants are not MRI safe. Johnson & Johnson/DePuy, Stryker, and Smith and Nephew metal implants are almost all safe in an MRI machine. Have you actually verified the metals used? J&J/DePuy, Stryker and Smith and Nephew have published information online.
