Hi there,
I had a concussion around 5 weeks ago and have some very strange symptoms. It is similar to a concussion I had many years ago in that I have pain on the left side of my head which spreads to my neck and arm. However, this time, I have found that I wake up at around 3am to 5am most of the time. Before this concussion, I have usually had around 7-8 hours of sleep. After the concussion, I usually have around 4-5 hours of sleep. I have no idea what is going on and it makes me very tired throughout the day. Has anyone had this before? Is this a common symptom? I am concerned that this may become a long term issue. Are there any stories of recoveries from this? Is there anything that I can do (exercise, supplements and/or diet) that can help improve the chances of recovery? Thank you so much for your kind assistance. Warm regards, Charles |

Try some physical therapy for your neck and arm.
The soft tissue of the neck /shoulder is often involved with head impacts. Muscle spasms, trigger points , strains.. See if that helps those issues.. Every head injury is different, no way to predict recovery time frame..

Charles,
This poll has no meaning. Every head injury is different. There is no way to compare injuries and outcomes. Even the experts know this. Some doctors may throw out general time frames but they have no basis in the individual's condition. They are just generalizations. Have you tried sleeping in different positions, like in an adjustable bed or recliner? Inflammation in the neck can cause all sorts of problems. For me, it interrupts my breathing. It can cause blood pressure and heart beat changes. My sleep is dependent on keeping my blood sugar up. If you wake up about 7 hours after your last meal, you could be waking because your brain is needs energy. You could try eating a complex carb and protein snack close to bed time. Or consume a glycemic oriented drink like Glucerna or Boost Glucose Control or the other brands.
