Default Improvement after 6 Years of None

I haven't posted for many years because nothing had changed. The time came to give up and just learn to live with the Post Concussion. I had 6 years of brain fog with a million different treatments that didn't help.

This year I went to another doctor just because... She suggested Donepezil because of study. This really helped with the brain fog that I have had for two years. I am able to keep numbers in my mind long enough to complete projects (I have been doing woodworking since that accident).

This seems to wear me out and I need more sleep but have 6-8 good hours. This is really just for people like me that have had long term issues. I have had no real progress after the first 8 months. It's been a long 6 years.

14 years ago while going through therapy, they said there are milestones.First year, second, fifth, and tenth....Im well over the tenth year still have many problems....For me the biggest change was acceptance plain and simple.....I do not beat myself up anymore, and just take things one day at a time....We are all different when it comes to TBI I hope you can find peace, we are all in this together!

Granted I don't have TBI issues, but so many health issues interest me and I'm always seeking info on many issues... I posted this info for another member recently:

Traumatic Brain Injury: A Cause of Hypothyroidism

If you have NOT had good thyroid work done, consider this.

Also, you mention brain fog and a major benefit of Grape Seed Extract is reducing or getting rid of brain fog,, or never getting it.... I've posted a lot about Grape Seed Extract and you could even do a search: TBI and Grape Seed Extract....maybe some of the above could help you. c

I have had PCS for 10yrs. My doc retired due to covid and trying to find another but its been so long with this. I have found some work arounds for things like losing stuff all the time but then things fall through the cracks depending on stress levels and attention. Brain fog comes and goes like real fog. my attention on multiple things is shot and when I need to focus on one thing in particular I can be easily distracted or procrastinate

jinga,

You should not try to maintain attention on multiple things. Multitasking is not a virtuous skill. It is stressful to the brain and can lead to depression.

Please do not try to multitask. One task at a time. Make notes if you need to leave one task and do another so you can review your notes when you return to the first task.

If you need to focus, Stop to think. That means stop or turn off the other distractions. It takes a lot of brain processing power or bandwidth to ignore distractions. The injured brain does not have that bandwidth.

One of the most critical things to learn about living with a brain injury is this simple concept. Our brains cannot just ignore distracting stimuli. We need to turn them off or change environments.

Yesterday, I needed to swap the display screen on my iPhone. It requires delicate work with small parts and screws. When I became frustrated trying to finish a delicate step, I had to turn the TV off and let my brain refocus. With the distraction free focus, I had no problem finishing the tasks.

The valuable part to understanding this is also simple. The quality of work that can be accomplished when distractions are turned off is much better, even if you do not have a compromised brain.
