Default Dr. Zelinsky question

If any of you tried her please PM me. I have some questions. Grateful for that.
It is far and expensive. Very. I just need some real life experience.
I had an online appointment and that raised some serious flags for me. But I want to give them a chance if I can hear real stories.

All my none emergency dr appointments have been over video....My GP, and shrink. Have one tomorrow in person as it would not help over video.

A behavioral optometrist is seriously limited with online visits.

I know some have used her over the years and even raved about her.

Thanks Mark. Good to know.
I think I was misunderstood. I am not planning to do online therapy with her, it was mostly about going over my case and see where to go from there. Whether I fly there or we use a 3rd party doctor.

This message is from a friend who saw Dr. Z. I’m posting for her. This is what she said:

I saw Dr. Zelinsky in 2018. My experience was generally good, I was quite impressed with her but it wasn’t a miracle cure. When I spoke with her on the phone before booking, she also did not suggest that it would be. She was very cautious to say that the treatment and the results would be very dependent on what she saw in office when I came to see her. But she also said that I would know within 1-2 weeks of getting the glasses mailed to me, if it was working.

I found that after a week or so my symptoms significantly improved with my prism glasses. Prior to the appointment, I was very overstimulated/and my symptoms were easily triggered by light, noise, and exercise.

For example, recovering from 1 big symptom causing event would take me 2 weeks to recover from. After those glasses and since, it takes 1-2 days to recover from the same big event. And only a few hours to recover from more minor ones. I can also work more. I believe my volunteer work hours doubled. Eventually was able to get back to work and school (though am still part time for both).

At my second appointment for my second pair of glasses, she decided I did not need any prisms anymore (for some people she would have prescribed another prism or prisms, depending on the results of the assessment) and just prescribed me glasses with a tint and computer coating, and reduced prescription to open up my peripheral vision (more standard and what most behavioural, neuro or developmental optometrists can do).

I still wear these glasses. I like them well enough, but of course didn’t see the same level of improvement as I did with the first pair with the prism. Instead I returned to gradual improvement with consistent effort.

The biggest thing that sets Dr. Zelinsky apart is her Z Bell test and prescribing non-yoked prisms and occlusions based on its results. (What lens will make you be able to locate sound the best).

A regular one of these optometrists from my experience will usually do yoked prisms (specifically for double or blurred vision only) and tints mostly based on asking you what feels best.

I thought she was definitely a great professional with a lot of knowledge and experience. She also seemed very caring, honest, and passionate about helping patients. Glad I went to see her. Had huge benefits for me, but there are significant draw backs of being an out of town patient and not getting the same, in person follow up as local patients. Her prices have also significantly raised since I saw her. Top notch doctor, but not guaranteed to be a “cure” like the stories that are often advertised.

FYI, this doesn’t help me, but a lot of people have success with taping around the nose of their glasses. For instructions you can google “binasal occlusion.” If you haven’t tried it yet and have any visual symptoms, I think it’s worth a shot. It causes symptom relief for a lot of people. If this helps you, then maybe you could see a more local person for guidance on how to proceed from there?

Anyways, I wish you the best of luck!

What are you hoping to achieve?
