Default New fatigue and intermittent hearing loss...any helpful ideas?

Hi everyone I had a mtbi 4 years ago and I've come a long way but I've had a setback and wanted to tap into the collaborative knowledge on our forum.

I didnt work for about 1.5 yrs or so and slowly kept my hand in work as I'm self employed. The last couple months I feel like I've really digressed with the following symptoms.

- sometimes profound fatigue but not necessarily needing sleep, I can feel shaky and weak and emotions are close to the surface.

- headache and extreme fatigue. When on the computer after short time on screen I have to leave. Ive had eyes rechecked and have a new rx coming with FL 41 filter @ 10%. Till they arrive i have bilateral tape on glasses and it helps a bit

- I've actually had hearing blackouts...not sure what to call them as previously when I was tired i couldn't follow a conversation or would watch someone talk and hear only garbled sounds thst didnt make sense. in the last 2 weeks Ive had about 5 or 6 occasions where someone would talk and i heard nothing, just like they werent talking, then the sound would come back as normal.

- pressure in the ears and nose like someone is pushing them. Intermittently. Ive taken cold medicine but the Dr says i feel better because ive filled my body full of adrenaline so i dont do that anymore...tempting though

- i have a new work team member I've brought on and she's more work than I've anticipated and i know she stresses me out. I can't keep up anymore and I'm actually typing this in bed as i need more and more quiet time. Im looking at bringin on soemone else to help out .

- camping for a few days brings about a calm and quieter feeling but need at least 3 or 4 days to feel it.

- im worried that by withdrawing and taking time off might be extremely helpful but could be sending me backward as no exposure to stimulants , social activities etc.

Has anyone experienced the intermittent hearing loss or know what it is and is it time for me to stop work as there doesn't seem to be a healthy balance. My family is worried about me but they dont have answers, understandable as they've never experienced this before. Is it time formretirement or extended time off?

Any thoughts would be appreciated. My Dr is helpful but doesnt get it. Has anyone felt theyve digressed by lesving work or has it been helpful?

Thank you

Susie

Ps sorry about typos

Just guessing.. the stress of the new employee. and just added things going on.. can wear you down so symptoms are reappearing again.

If possible slow down and take some time to get back to a good place where those issues can resolve.

Susie1,

Sounds like you have a lot going on. My observation is you are overdoing it. The neurological term is over-attending. Your brain/mind has too many tasks going at the same time. Being able to recover in just 3-4 days is promising.

Keep in mind there is a difference between being sleepy and your brain being fatigued.

Brain fatigue would be signaled by sensory processing suddenly going blank. Words on a page mean nothing. You may reread lines of text over and over and it still does not make sense. Voices sound like Charlie Brown adults 'Wa wa wa.'

If you dwell on the new team member, your brain can become exhausted by never getting a break.

I don't have solutions. I just know that we must find our moderated effort level. Our needs are unique to each of us.

We live is trying times with little ability to escape the constant barrage of drama in the news. We need to develop our own ways of relating to world and local events.

Thank You JoMar and Mark In Idaho!

Appreciate your answers and agree with all, funny you would mention our world today because that is upsetting as well. Yes, lots happening but pcs can be so isolating and it really doesnt seem to get to the phase of ultimate healing.

Im hoping that although its been 4 years i might continue to heal. I need to back off work, news and find an easier route to healing.

I've gotten the Charlie Brown hearing before but never totally quiet... I should listen to my body more instead of pushing more. Id like to know if others have experienced this? Funny that it never happened before but did multiple times in the last several weeks. Why would that be? Curious

Thank you

Susie

Susie1,

Your healing is long finished. From here forward, adapting to your condition is the only way to see improvements. The research supports this. Have that hard talk with yourself about the limits you run up against. Mourn your lost past self and accept your new self and don't look back.

Establish the range of activities you can pursue based on the pace and persistence your brain can tolerate.

I know that certain activities are going to come with a delayed cost. I may try to store up some mental energy before and still expect to need to have a recovery time after.

For me, sounds/voices and visual over-stimulation are the enemy. I hear echoes in large buildings that others do not hear. They wipe me out.

If I go to a restaurant, we choose a booth or table at a wall, preferably a corner of the room. The sounds are easier to tolerate. I take foam ear plugs.

Currently, you are being overloaded with world issues that consume mental energy. They take up the mental bandwidth you need to just do a normal day.

Turn off media. Protect yourself from the chaos in the media. You cannot change any of those issues so ignore them. Take care of yourself.

Make your personal choice about Covid. I take immune support vitamins and will not be getting the shot. My wife, myself, my son and his family of 5, have already had Covid and recovered. Our choice of how we move forward in a Covid world.

Think about choices and make your choice so you do not have 'undecided issues' playing over and over in your mind.

Some of my symptoms have been more prevalent lately, too. I'm in the middle of two building projects and waiting for call backs on bids, schedules, and such. That is taxing on the mind.

Our PCS minds do not tolerate so many balls in the air being juggled.

If you try to juggle more balls than you should, you don't drop one ball. You drop them all. CRASH.....

Keep that concept to use when you plan your activity/task levels.

Remember to spend a moment to mourn the old you so you can leave her in the past and live forward as the new you.

Dear Mark in Idaho - I was a little overwhelmed by your response but a special thank you for your direct and kind words. I was upset after reading it because I just did not want to believe it or accept it.

I was in a brain injury support group today for a meeting and one of the members was a Neuropsychologist. She said in a very direct way that I needed to say goodbye to the old me and welcome the new one and move forward. I know I needed to hear those words again because I will try and push through any problem.

Just by chance I had a doctors appointment and he had some sobering information as well. I have the message although I still don't like it 😀
My brain was overwhelmed and I hope to avoid this again. Im already looking forward to the changes

Thank you!

I cant imagine any of of like this?.....This road is a hard one we need to learn to know what is our Kryptonite!

Its been close to 15 years for me, I miss work, miss my crew, miss my family, I miss it all!......For all that there is nothing I can do!

What I can do, and continue to do is....Take care of myself, know what to keep away from.....The hardest thing for me was" acceptance ".....

When I finally accepted everything that happened, the good and bad the ugly.
Is when I learned to enjoy the little things....Embrace a smile or laugh...

Susie1,

You have a task to do. Accepting your limits is just the start. Learning how to move forward within those limits is quite another. You can't start the second until you have done the first.

The support group should offer you good opportunities to see how others accepted the new person and moved on.

I am trying to get a private time with our pastor at church. Due to pre-existing neurological and autoimmune health conditions, Covid hit him hard with encephalitis. It is just like a serious concussion. Lights, sounds, memory, the works. He is getting no help to understand how to move forward.

It is very difficult to do this alone. We need others to get on board with us. Take family or friends to support group if you can. They need to hear these same comments and see others with similar limitations.

My best to you.

DavOD. Sounds like you've walked the hard road and are on the path of least Resistance your your health and well being. Sad about your family but I Hope you have some joy with some of them.

I think fatigue is my kryptonite and knowing what casues that and showing it respect is something I need to observe. Hard sometimes because I always want to " get things done" and have pushed thru so much in the past.

Today I Walked away from a job that I foolishly volunteered for and then hired someone else to do it! Felt good walking away and delegating. A victory! Feel much better tonight

Acceptance....thats something thst sounds so easy but it's more than a word. I can do this too...

Thank You and best wishes

Susie
