Got a concussion a year ago, I stood up and stretched, my left knee locked up and I fell over and hit my head. Didn't lose consciousness but had nausea and dizziness, just wanted to sleep. went to the ER to be sure nothing was damaged, CT showed nothing, I had no headaches, no pain, I returned to normal functions two days later.
A couple of weeks later I began having something like drop foot but thought it would subside shortly, I did not have a Primary Doctor at the time and searched for a suitable doctor, first visit I could get was 4 months out, i declined it, thinking I would get better before the date arrived. Two months later I went dancing with my girlfriends and wound up falling on the dance floor, one of my girlfriends is a Chiropractor/Energy healer specializing in neuro pathological problems, she told me that my eyes and feet were not communicating correctly, long story short, I've been seeing her since then, since I was still falling I started walking with a cane which helps sometimes but I still lose my balance and fall sometimes. It's better if I don't wear shoes but one can't walk everywhere shoeless, so barefoot shoes keep me closest to the ground. Other symptoms which have developed and are slowly getting better are ability to speak and swallow properly, cognitive functions are fine, I can drive ok but walking is still tiresome. I retired at mid September so I could heal, overestimated my abilities and sprained my ankle on the bad foot the day after retiring. As soon as that healed, I still overestimated my abilities and twisted my back and ribs, I've never felt pain like that before, healing from that causes exhaustion and instead of falling I just collapse. I trust my chiropractor and I want to stick with her, continue to take the supplements she recommends and start again with the exercises I haven't been able to do due to the new injuries. I think I am getting better and she does too but it is slow going. Keeping in mind good available doctors are difficult to find in my area, let alone knowledgeable in PCS, would you stick with the Chiropractor who knows a lot about PCS? |

With PCS your brain is essentially on low power mode as it needs energy to heal even if it doesn't hurt. Be as healthy as you can, esp with cardio (easier said than done). Fine motor control will be difficult but will eventually come back.

Carymeaway,
You need a vestibular assessment and likely a vision assessment. Both are frequently overlooked by doctors. A behavioral optometrist is best. They are hard to find but worth the effort. Do you have any rehabilitation hospitals nearby? They often have these specialists or can refer you to them. An speech therapist assessment would be good, too. It sounds like you suffered a subtle upper neck injury. Very few chiro know how to treat them.

Don't overlook possibilities of an unrelated new medical issue, get a full work up before assuming it is only concussion related.
