I heard that taking ibuprofen shortly after a head injury may hinder the healing processes and may even cause more cognitive problems. Of course, I took it almost every day for 2 weeks after my accident. Have you heard anything.

No I have not but my son took it everyday, since his injury also for his headache.

****. Shitty McShitpants. The first thing they did after diagnosing me with PCS was give me a "loading dose" of ibuprofen. which was like 900 mg. And i continued as prescribed for a couple days, but quit when it offered me no relief. Whats worse is the doc acted like I was a " pain seeker" , someone seeking pain meds. When I rated the headache an 8 on a scale or 1 to ten she gave me attitude, "Are you sure? you dont look like an 8 to me." MY GF was on the verge of beating her. "well, we're going to give you some ibuprofen. " " Ive tried, it doesnt do anything." " Well, lets call this a loading dose. (chuckle)"


This makes me angry. Why didnt someone test this sooner? Why always a minute too late for me. And that damn ER doc. I wasnt asking for any narcotics, I wouldnt have taken them if she had tried to prescribe them to me. She should have known that the Ibuprofen wasnt going to help. Everything ive read since then says its standard for pain medicine to not work. Why would she give me Ibuprofen then? She went to med school, shouldnt she know these things? Damn doctors. It seems someone can go through medschool and be a doctor but still have zero common sense.

I have concluded that most if not all the doctors I saw for a concussion (there were like 6) did not understand what a concussion really does to people. Doctors who treat patients that have concussions should have had at least one concussion in their life. This should be a rule or something.

I have also found that doctors are pretty ignorant about head injuries. Except for neurologists. As for the ibuprofen, I had heard that sort of thing before even back in 2000 when I got my first injury. So I studiously avoided any pain killer medication for at least the first few months post-injury. I have found that the *only* thing that has helped the weird sort of headaches (which were sort of like migraines except they covered my whole head) which I sensed were due to the injury, was narcotics. Luckily I had a very open minded doctor who was willing to prescribe oxycodone or percocet for the head pain and it worked. It was the only thing that did. I tried everything else, including migraine medications and they did absolutely nothing. But just try to get most doctors to prescribe narcotics for any reason. It's almost impossible. They are totally paranoid, probably at least in part due to the drug insanity of this country, with the DEA ready to pounce on them for the tiniest detail and revoke their license to practice medicine. So that keeps them paranoid. Why should they take even the most miniscule risk of losing their medical license? I mean, it's not their pain. They probably don't even know you.
