Default 13 months and feeling pretty good now

Just wanted to give an update.. I have not posted here in a while. Its been 13 months since my bad concussion. Almost all of the symptoms have gone away.. the only time I have felt them is when I get extremely stressed out.

I can now work with no problems. Before I was confused, fatigued, irritable and just feeling in a fog. I work long hours sometimes and I have been able to work a 12 hour day with no major problems. I don't know if I can handle exercise yet, but I will try in January.

I went to the doctor 3 months ago and he prescribed me Amantadine, which was originally an antiviral med, but docs noticed it helped Parkinsons and the concussion specialist told me it also helped with tbi. I took a low dose for 2 months and it helped with fatigue and concentration probs. I felt ok when I was on it, but after 2 months when I stopped taking it I felt even better... so its been about a month since I have been off the med and I am without any PCS symptoms 90% of the time (which is a huge improvement from 6-7 months ago).

I still want to try neurofeedback to get me back to 100% and I may do that in January or Feb. If I am able to exercise in January without causing symptoms I will be amazed... I will keep you posted.

I Just thought this might give some people hope that PCS will fade. I can tell you it has been a long and gradual process.. but I think the worst is behind me.. as long as I dont hit my head again

Thanks Yannimac, this is great news. It is good to hear from people who do get better! I hope you will continue to improve and get back to 100%. Please keep us posted on how the exercise goes. Best wishes for the new year!

I am so happy for you and thanks for posting your good news. Most people fade away from reporting their good news, just as their symptoms fade and encouraging results provide people hope to keep on plugging at recovery. I hope you can exercise soon. All the best!

No luck on the exercise. I tried a few days ago and still makes me feel dizzy and out of it. So I bit the bullet and forked over $1200 for neurofeedback equipment. Inspired by (or copying if you want to get technical) Dave Strand, I started a blog to show you my results. I am still waiting on the equipment, but I plan to get started right away when I receive it. Just wanted to give everyone my perspective on whether this works for PCS/tbi.

Hi yannimac, do you check your heartrate when you exercise? I have been doing some indoor cycling again since Nov. I started with 15 min. and worked my way up to 30 min., but a week ago I raised my heartrate (I use a monitor) to 120 for a while and I was more dizzy for a few days. So after taking a few day off, I am back down to 25 min. and working only up to 110 bpm. It is very frustrating, but I feel better when I do something. Hope this helps and good luck with the neurofeedback.

Thanks for the post Yannimac and the link. I check out Daves Site once a week and there a great deal of information there on nuerofeedback and reference links for home training.

I'm still reading Getting Started with Neurofeedback by John Demos an excellent reference book and I'm learning a great deal on how to set up and use neurofeedback and HEG.

Hope to be on line with neurofeedback home training by the end of March.

Looking forward to seeing your results.

Some time ago I reported on Barry Willer and what you are doing with your cycling sounds like what he reccomends - have a study up on him - you will able to google him.

I tried an regulated exercise program based on Willer's research for about 3 months. It did not work for me. Sounds like it does work for some. I am guessing my brain injury is different from theirs.
