Default Amitriptyline (Elavil) for headaches

Hi, I hope you are all doing better now that the stress of holidays is over. I want to report that I am getting some really good results from the amitriptyline. I have been on it for a month now and am taking 20 mg at night and am getting up without a headache! What a great feeling! My headache still comes through at times, but it's not there most of the day like it used to. The drowsyness from the med. was really bothersome, but is better now, so I am glad I stuck it out. I saw my neuro last Wed. and he is transfering me back to my GP - unless I get worse again. So I hope this will continue to work for me and I can get back to "normal".

Hi i just read your post thought id share with you that i also got prescribed amitriptyline by my GP for my headaches too!!
I know what you mean about the drowsiness, although it helped me get a good night sleep at first which i was badly needing! I started off with 10mg which gradually got increased to 50mg a night.
It helped my headaches alot aswell though most of the time. Unfortunately i got taken off it recently though as they were causing me to have a rapid heart rate.
Hope they continue working for you, and you get back to normal soon!
All the best!
