Default doctors

I received a concussion about 3 months ago and have been diagnosed with post concussion syndrome by a GP and a psychiatrist. They both suggested that I should just "wait it out" for awhile before I see any others doctors, i.e. a neurologist. I mainly suffer from sleep problems (early morning awakenings / light sleep) and a weird sort of eye fog that comes in early at night - my eyes get tired and focusing them feels different.

I was wondering at what point should I see a neurologist about all this. I've heard 6 months is usually a good marker, but if there is some sort of medication that would help now I wouldn't see the point in waiting. This whole PCS thing sure sucks - it's hard to know when to stop looking for answers and when to just accept that it is what it is.

Thanks and to all those suffering from this be strong.

its very easy for them to say wait it out as they arent the ones going through it. The first GP I went to see gave me pills for some sort of stomach issue because I had just returned from Mexico. I laughed and said my stomachs fine, nevertheless I told her to get lost and havent been back.

Ive had good luck with a chiropractor, how are your eyes during the day? Id suggest calling a few that wont be telling you you have to come back 2 times a weekf or a couple months, see if you can find one thats actually concerned about you and getting you better..

The one I goto has a great rep and a laser therapy machine, the laser did wonders for me but I still relapse. The chiro guy is actually pretty angry about it as he cant figure out why I continue to relapse

Im going to try acupuncture this week too as Ive heard it can be quite helpful

Good luck!

I have pcs - 4 concussions in 18 months, began having pcs issues with the last one which was 2 1/2 years ago.

I have similar sleep issues and my neurologist prescribed a low dose of noritriptoline. It is a old anti depressent, but in low doses helps improve the quality of sleep. It has really helped improve my sleep. I also see a chiropractor for my headaches. I stopped seeing him for the summer as I was crazy busy with three kids at home, and my headaches came back with a vengence.

I have vision issues too. I get periodic bouts throughout the day of blurry or double vision though not just at night.

As for a timeline, I was told 6 months, then 1 year, then 18 months. Each one set me up for disappointment. Hopefully your recovery is only 6 months! I have read many postings from people who have recovered

If it bothers you see someone now, ask them to refer you to a neurologist.

I suffered a concussion about 3 years ago and still have pcs from the sucker. I was told the same thing, that the symptoms would go away within a few months and to wait it out - guess I'm one of the unlucky ones.

I'm still trying different meds and things to help with my symptoms and wished I would have seen someone a lot sooner - tried waiting it out for almost 2 years before I saw a doctor again.
