My partner had a car accident 4 weeks ago and suffered a severe TBI. He had an op to the frontal lobe and to the left side also. He is on Life support and has a trach due to the Doctor saying the ventilator needed to come out to reduce infection.His shunt was removed from his head 7 days after the op as they were no longer concerned with ICP. He has been battling a temperature for weeks and today I have been informed he is not responding to simulus even though he is no longer sedated. He crashed at a speed of 100mph and the passenger died so was a really bad accident. I have no idea what not responding to simulus means and as I cannot get to the hospital due to the distance i rely on emails from them. The reason I write here is I am hoping someone can give me their realistic opinion of what this means or any experiance of own TBI. Any information would be gratefully received.

I am terribly sorry to hear of your partners condition. If you are unable to receive information via email, if you have the authorization/power of attorney to do so, I'd call their doctor and request a telephone conference so that you can ask your questions and have them answered.

If there is someone else who has that authority , hoping that you are on good terms with them, should be able to discuss the prognosis with the doctor and tell you and/or allow you to be part of the conference.

I don't believe that a 'lay' person has the ability to answer your question.

I can somewhat understand what you're partner is going through - though his case is pretty extensive. I would call the hospital for a better explanation of what your partner is experiencing. My first thought is that they left out the letter :t; out of stimulus. They have tried stimulating your partner, to which he did not react. Also, please do contact the Disability Linkage Line @ 1-866-333-2466. They are difficult to get through to at first, due to low staff, but they are extremely helpful! They know about all of the resources for different illnesses and disabilities throughout the states - please do call.

I also highly recommend http://www.traumaticbraininjury.org there are many links, info, as well as those who meet online to chat. People in chat are very supportive & many have been through a heck of a lot. It would help to get firsthand knowledge of injuries that your partner has.
