I've had pcs for about 4 months now. The headaches have gone to some extent and also the anxiety! But my symptoms now are only really emotional/psychological. I've tired to carry on like normal, but being a student that tends to mean going out and drinking. But i think that by doing this, it slows my recovery process. I feel as well like i'm not all there sometimes, like i have this mental fog over me! I just cant snap out of it! Also i have these irrational, worrying thoughts for a little while and then i seem to snap out of it! Any advice from anyone would be useful. Thanks

its common to feel that way abu, have you tryed the vitamin supplements and hydration coffee is good too but boozing is out, also to much noise ect you have hurt your brain mate so take it easy and you will feel better with time

Hi Abu44b,

It generally takes about one year for the brain to get through the TBI. Sometimes, longer or shorter, depending upon severity of injury and area damaged.

Since my brain surgery and injury, I've slowly accepted the fact that I cannot push myself too hard. I haven't drank in 15 years anyway (due to likelihood of increased seizures), but I now have to reduce distractions as much as possible, to get my job/s done. When I don't, I lose it. I lose impulse control in those times - which can be quite dangerous, for me and others! I now understand that sad reality, and do all I can to remain in control. It does work for me, but it also takes some time, acceptance, and hard work.

Everyone in this world has limits. The sooner one understands and accepts their personal limitations, and works around them, the better. You may be able to go back to drinking with your buddies soon - who knows?

Honestly, I hold very strong feelings against drugs and alcohol. I totally understand your desire to be around your buddies, hanging out, but that doesn't have to include drinking . Try to make the occasion less stimulating = less people & conversation to try and decipher. Take away the music during those times if you can.
