Default Alcohol Withdrawal and Possible Concussion

Hi everyone! I'm a little freaked out about how I feel right now so any help would be nice.

I've been a heavy drinker all year. I would go through bouts of being drunk every day for a week or so followed by a week or two of abstinence.
Sometimes in my time off I would feel mild withdrawal symptoms but nothing too severe.

A few days ago I was at a wedding party after a weekly drinking fit
and I bumped my forehead. I barely felt it at the time and I continued to
go about my evening just fine. The next morning however, I had a bump
on my head and a pretty bad headache.

Now 2 days later I still feel a bit off. My head hurts, I'm tired, and I feel mildly spacey.
Also, I usually run or walk 2-5 miles a day for exercise yet when I tried to walk for about 1 mile today I felt awful. My head was pounding every time I moved and I felt... out of it maybe dizzy.

I'm going to contact a doctor in an hour but I wanted any advice on what could be going on.

Thanks in advance.

Hi - No more alcohol, rest your brain and your body, avoid stress and DON'T bang your head again. If you don't feel well don't carry on with anything - rest. Ignoring tiredness and not resting is the worst thing you can do.

I will leave it to the boys to expand on this but above gives you the basics. Could you tell us how old you are?

Thanks for the reply. I'm 30 and have been resting, however I have to do work on my computer for my job. I can do it from home and try to keep the stress down although I'm started to worry a bit which keeps me from sleeping.

I made an appointment with a neurologist but there isn't anything available before june 16th. I will call again tomorrow and see if I can get a general physician sooner.

Now lets hope for some sleep...

Default Booze and bumps

Think of it this way.

Your brain was in a very delicate condition from the alcohol insult. Then you bumped it.

Now you are experiencing the after effects of a concussion.

Getting blasted with alcohol is not much different that a concussion. One is due to physical force. The other is due to chemical "force."

Maybe, if you dry out enough and give your brain some time off from the alcohol, it might get better.

Not much chance if you continue to drink.

Now, you have a chance to make a life decision.

Do you want more of the same or is it time to feel better and live a long life?

But, I think you already figured that out.

Your choice.

Your right. I'm done with it. I was using alcohol to deal with issues...in the end it made everything worse. I'm going to try to my best to heal up physically and emotionally the right way.

I think what led me to even get to this point were emotional factors that encouraged such behavior.

but now I know I do not want to go down that path...

So, I tried to get an appointment with a general doctor the
nurse said I have to go to the ER with the symptoms that I'm having...they need to do scans. I'm scared as hell now even shaky from the anxiety but here I go.

Lets hope all is okay.

So my only choice was the ER. I spent the entire day there (the staff was really nice). The doc said I mostly had a mild concussion and now have to wait out the Post Concussion syndrome.

He said the alcohol has nothing to do with it.

I have slowly been feeling better...but I'm not 100 percent. Last night I had a dizzy spell in a mall and incredible anxiety at night.

What a messed up situation from a tiny head bump.

Angry ???!!!???!!!

I know what you mean, I still can't get my head around the fact that one tiny bump to my head has completely turned my life upside down - and the lives of those I love the most!! I have even had my mum move in with my husband, my boys and I to help out. More for support then anything else.

Putting it plainly - IT *edit* SUCKS!!!!! Sorry, needed a bit of a vent.

Default Malls

Hi, malls are bad for PCS - about 3 weeks post accident I was in one and found myslef standing in the middle crying - didn't know which way was out or what I was doing there - apparently it was a panic attack - was told that it was too much stimulus for my brain to handle. I now have only brief visits, sometimes use ear plugs and sunglasses - just hate the noise in them the buzz of crowds is very hard on my brain!

I don't agree on what you were told about the alcohol - anything like that which can effect your brain in anyway at the moment can not be good.

Please be kind to yourself and rest. If you need to work take a short break every half hour or so and if you are tired sleep. I sure wish that I had practised what I now preach!
