hello,

the chorda tympani nerve, which mediates taste, merges with the lingual nerve which mediates sensation to your tongue. frequently, when patients are injured by dental injections, root canals, etc, patients report a metallic or salty taste in their mouth. this is likely due to damage done to the nerve by either the needle from the injection or some other trauma incurred from the dental work.
