Question questions???

Hey all, I am not sure if this is the right section but the Trigeminal nerve is one of the ones i had damaged due to a Chemical exposure. The other is the olfactory nerve and maybe others, not sure at this point.

I was placed on Neurotin for awhile with no real success. I had a terrible side effect , Pure Rage. That was at 1100 mgs. I have a appointment around around Feb. with my neurolgist.
Some of the other things i have tried are 5400 mgs of omega 3 fish oils.

I have been having trouble sleeping(pain), So after a sleep study they gave me lunesta 3mgs. That has helped with sleeping.

My pain seems to be here all the time. Some days good and some bad.

Is there other things out there I can try or drugs that might work

Thanks in advance

Default Sorry for lack of response

Hi there, sorry for the delay in getting a response. These folks here are usually quite prompt to respond and answer your questions.

I can't give you a lot of information, but hopefully someone will come along shortly to help. I have Atypical TN and pain is centered in my right ear only, like most folks here I started out taking tegretol for the pain and it helps some, but then I only have episodes once a week or so. If you do try the tegretol, ask for the time released form - brand name is "Carbatrol". However, the best relief I get is from placing a heat pad(bag) on the side of my face.

Sorry to not be more help, but I just wanted you to know that I read your post and that I care that you are in pain.

Good Luck!

Rhonda

I used a heat pak on my face as we drove to Mayo clinic. I laid down all the way there. The medication is kind of a trial and error process.
When I tried Tegretol, I broke out with big red spots like measles and they lasted a week. So sorry for you to be in a chemical explosion.
That alone would be traumatising. Bless, Doodle bug7

I am losing hope..... I was just told by a respected neuro sugeon that " I got nothing for ya" that my best bet is a pain clinic. I have a appt. with them later in the month.
I started tregatol and it doesnt seem to be doing anything yet, but i am at 100 mgs a day and growing every 4 days or so.

thanks for the responce. I dont know where to go from here?????????

Hi Cheminj . Dont be so doubtful about a pain management doctor /clinic.
I know for me my pain management doctor was the best help I have gotten... and because of them I was able to get refereed to other specialists and finally getting my neuro stimulator implanted. A neuro wants nothing much to do with me... as they cant offer much help .
Do you take any vit B or use Caspian cream . there are allot of things that help. Help not cure... . Keep your search going I know you will be able to find something or a combo of things to help control the bad pain. I think up top in the stickies there is a listy of things that others have found helpful. and we are always here if you need a pal , support or have a need to vent .
let us know how we can help you .
Positive thoughts for you to find an answer for you to ease the pain .
PEACE

Is this normal.... So meny doctors and so little answers. My fear is that i will be drugged into zombie state.

I find alot of them saying " In time the pain MIGHT heal or atleast your body will get used to it" I guess my job in the process is to try to remain sane until that day.

I wonder if the swelling will go away also or will that remain?
