Default Has anyone tried Norspan (Buprenophine)

Hi all,
Just wondering i have just started on Norspan patches 5 micrograms per hour controlled release has anyone tried it i am using the patches as well as valproate 1000mg per day and lyrica 150mgs per day, i seem to be getting a bit of relief from the patch as well as meds but i cant be on this long term it is only until we sort out something that will work!

I also posted in my last thread that i had a seizure last thursday the 27th of nov i am having all sorts of tests done now to make sure its not epilepsy they are checking my anticonvulsant levels and we are going to work out a new pain plan i am not keen on long term taking the Norspan because it is Morpheine but i just cant take the pain at the moment so i guess whatever hepls is good for me right now! i will keep you all informed on what is going on!!

Low pain wishes to all

Melina

I can't give you any info on this patch, but I tried fentanyl patches, which are morphine, and they made me really sick. Be careful and I'm hoping they come up with something that works for you.

Hi Melina,

My husband doesn't have TN, but has been on Norspan patches for several months now, for his back pain/nerve pain. He's been taking the 20mg per hour ones with Valproate morning and evening, and has been getting really good pain relief from that combination.

You said that Norspan patches are Morphine. Neither Norspan nor Fentanyl patches are Morphine, although both are fairly similar.

As far as I know, there isn't a patch yet that has Morphine in it but if you'd like to check that out, maybe you could ask our resident drug expert (mrsD) in the medication Forum.

I hope you get some decent pain relief soon. This medication is the first one that has worked really well for my DH, so good luck!

Does anyone have any experience with Dr Diwan & Dr Gorman from the Spinal Clinic at St George Hospital in Kogarah ?? Dr Gorman has placed me on 20mcg of NORSPAN and it's better than the tramadol that my GP had me on, but, it's still very painful. I have read that the max for NORSPAN is 40mcg (2 x 20mcg). Is anyone else currently on 40mcg of NORSPAN ??

I have severe disc deformation (bulging) on L4/L5 & L5/S1.

Dr Diwan wants me to wait for him to bring out some new technology from Germany which will fuse L4/L5/S1, but, still allow movement between L4/L5.

Has anyone heard of this new technology ???

Hello inenigma, and welcome to NeuroTalk.

Unfortunately I'm no longer able to answer questions about Norspan because hubby's been off those Patches for a little over a year now.

He had major surgery last November and had to detox off them and because that wasn't very nice, he's not gone back on them. He takes a slow release oral pain medication instead now.

We've also moved from the Sydney area, but hopefully another of our Australians from NSW will see this and be able to help you out.

If it's general information that you want, may I suggest that you post in the Medication Forum? You may get more information there.
