Unhappy Ready to give up.....

I was diagnosed with Trigeminal neuralgia in January of 2010 (this year) and its been pure hell for me. I am right now as I type experiencing a flare and have been going through the ups and downs of a flare up for the past 48 hours. I was at the ER last night and they gave me a shot of Benadryl and a shot of Demorol then sent me home with some Ultram. The shots made me sleep but I woke up still in pain.

I am on Neurontin and Topamax daily for it and today he (my neurologist) started me on Lyrica.

I am so frustrated and ready to just give up......

I'm 30 years old and today I was crying like a baby on my momma's arm I was in so much pain

Hi Doberdawgs4me,

So sorry to hear that you are going through so much pain. This is one of the worst and scariest things for a person to go through. Please don't give up though. There are several procedures you can try to have done that might help you. I had a gamma knife radiation and then an mvd done. The mvd was the best thing I could have done. I, too, felt like giving up about this time last year. But there is hope. Have you discussed any procedures with your neurologist?

Hope you get some relief soon.

You still have plenty of options to help you manage the pain. Do Not give up before you try a few other meds or options . You said you were dx with this in Jan ..but how long have you had this? do you know when you started getting trig pain?
Have you seen a pain specialist doctor ? I would suggest you try and see one if you are able. they can help more the you would think.
give yourself time to adjust to the new med you started taking yesterday. and PLEASE let us know how you are doing . We are here and this is a good place to find friends .

I hope your Sunday is smoother and the hours spent with less pain.
PEACE and HOPE

Default Don't give up!

Please don't give up. We know what you are going through and how painful this is. I have considered giving up myself. I'm just beginning this journey myself and it is very difficult. I'm just a little older than you but I cannot imagine going through the rest of my life like this. There are things to help and lots of supportive people to help. There's a lot of options available and its a matter of finding the right one that works for you. Also, try looking into some natural things like massage, accupuncture, and taking certain vitamins. And definantely keep in touch with other people that have this as well because they are the only ones that really know what you are going through and they are so helpful!

Dober,
I'm sosorry that you are hurting so badly - it can be hell getting up to the right meds when you first get this disease - but try to bear it through, and stick with us, ok? There are many med combos to try, and procedures, that may help. You CAN make it through this, but I made use of my ER plenty of times before they got it right. So do what you need to do, and go there if you need to. Each time, request that they call your neurologist, so that they know the severity of where you are at and don't brush you off. You need to bee your best advocate right now, so keep pushing until they get it right.
...and stick with us, we'll help you.

Don't give up!!!!

Ditto to what everyone else has told you! Research, change/increase meds, talk to your Dr., etc. Go to ER when you need to go.

Just take one day at a time! We will help you get throught this!!

Keep your chin up!

I have felt the same way recently. It's hard. I keep reminding myself, things could be worse. And I know they could be. I know that is a hard thing to imagine when you (and I have a hard time too) when the pain is so unbearable.

There are treatments out there, don't give up hope just yet. I know it's a cliche, but one day at a time, one hour, one minute, one second.

You are strong.
