Hi, Everyone! I am wondering how many of you have tried chiropractic care for your TN. What were your outcomes?

I was wondering the same thing Bluemom as well as acupunture. It's funny no one has responded to yours or mine posts. I do have a consult with a chiro I saw on you tube talking about TN and ATN. I really don't have much faith in chiro's but it's a free consult so I'll hear what he has to say. I'v been to many for my back and they all talk a good story. Who knows maybe he may be able to help???
Take care |

I have never had chiropractic or acupuncture
Because the docs knew with my jaw being broken on both side and nerve snapped on the right... they knew what and where and how the t.n, a.d. came to be. I do know of others on different sites and f.b. that find acupuncture helpful and reduces the pain . also the same for chiropractic tho it seems less popular for ones I know to try. I dont know why?? Maybe it is the picture one might get if they have never had it..ya get the image of neck or jaw snapping and makes one less likely to try. I sure hope it helps you both, as I know others use it as part of the ritual in their pain management. PEACE BMW |

Yes, I too find it interesting that no one has responded with feedback on chiropractic care or acupuncture. I can only assume that people are not trying these options. I can hardly blame those in severe pain for not wanting anyone to touch or manipulate their head. I myself have been unable to bring myself to get a cavity filled, despite wonderful advice I've received here.
I found a wonderful chiropractor years ago after reading about his practice in the local paper. I also took advantage of a free eval. This was for my back. I LOVE this guy. I had not seen him in 6 months because my back is holding up nicely. Anyway, I saw him on Monday about the TN. He has ordered an x-ray of my neck. He said that sometimes the problem can originate in a vertebrae in the neck. But, he offered no promises. If the x-ray shows no compression there, he won't be able to help. I have to say that I was disappointed. I thought my chiro believed that everything is related to the spine--he has always given me that impression. I was set to hear that he could fix this and get me off of this medication that I hate. I don't think that I would have been 100% convinced, but I would have been 100% hopeful. I'll keep you all posted. Scoopy, please let us know how your consult goes. Oh, Scoopy, one more thing. I had horrible back pain for years. My chiro was able to rein it in to a degree, but I later found that I had an underlying condition which was causing persistent inflammation. Spinal manipulation couldn't touch that. Perhaps, the source of your back pain is not in the alignment of your spine. Just a thought. Bluemom |

I've been seeing a chiropractor for over a month now. My pain has not gone over a 3 in all that time. Keep in mind though that I have not been diagnosed with TN. My diagnosis was Atypical Facial Pain following a dental procedure. I do not have trigger points on my face as many of the rest of you do. My pain is in the upper jaw and was constant at a 7, 8, or 9 - 24/7 when it first began back in the beginning of August. I am taking Amitriptyline and Lorezapam. (Not similtaneously! - A at night, L during the day so that I can function and go to work.)
The first few visits when my neck was being manipulated, all I could think of was "I'm sure glad Doc knows what he's doing!" Such awful crunching! But during this last visit earlier this week, he did not have to adjust my neck. He did concentrate on pressure points elsewhere. I'll have to say that I feel considerably better, but then I don't think I'm riding in the same lifeboat that you all are. |

I saw every kind of doctor before I was diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia, including a physical therapist. My therapist was actually the first person to recognize what I had, and he recommended that I tried acupuncture. At the time I was 17, and I did not want to do it. My mom was the one that talked me into getting the acupuncture. According to my therapist I was supposed to start to see results after 3 sessions of acupuncture.
After the 3 sessions, my condition was actually worse. So bad to the point that I was taken to the emergency room. From there I was referred to a neurologist and I was given Tegretol. Within 2 days of starting on Tegretol my Trigeminal Neuralgia attacks had gone away. I'm not saying that the acupuncture made my condition worse because my condition had been getting worse and worse already. I am also forever grateful to my physical therapist for diagnosing me because I had seen several doctors, including a facial pain doctor, and couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. |
