Default What tests do I ask for when I see my neuro?

Hello guys. I have atypical facial pain/teeth and gum pain. I'v seen my nuero once and we decided to start a medication(amitriptyline). I am now taking 50 mgs and is not helping much. It seems my condition is getting worse. I do not have the typical TN sharp shooting pains. Mine is a dull aching pain that is always there ranging from a 3 to a 7. I'm going to see her again soon.

My question is what tests should I have done? It seems an MRI is basically the only test. Is this true?

Thx guys

An MRI is done to rule out other causes such as tumors or MS. Using an anticonvulsant medication is another diagnostic tool. I would think that antidepressants would also suffice since they are used to treat neuropathic pain. I don't know of any "new" tests, but I'm sure others will chime in if somethings changed concerning them.
