Hi All
New here and I have a question about medications. Has anyone ever used a combination of Trileptal and Tegretol? I took Tegregol up to 800 mg and the pain returned. I was then switched to Trileptal 1200 mg and now that appears to be allowing some of the pain through again, like the Tegretol did. I was thinking of adding some Tegretol to the Trileptal, but thought I ask around first. The treatment I receive now is primarily from my family doctor and she is great so far. She does want to send me to neurology if the pain returns and I would like to avoid that if possible. Thanks Jody |

I recommend that you see a neurologist. My internist helped me for quite awhile (while fairly low doses of Tegretol was all I needed). But neurologists are the specialists and when one medication isn't enough, i think you should see a specialist. I hope you find something that works well for you!

I also highly recommend going to a neuro. If the pain is caused by nerves you owe it to yourself to see an expert...that doesn't mean every neuro is great either..believe me. Throughout the last year or so I was pretty much a guinea pig trying all sorts of meds and mixtures... I am not positive but I do believe I was once on both Trileptol and Tegretol... they are a similar drug with similar effects so I don't believe mixing them is dangerous..but perhaps its kinda overdoing the same type of drug. I had negative results with both drugs so I'm probably not much help, I'd definitely ask your doc to go back to the drug that works best for your pain.
