Default Newly diagnosed SCARED

I have posted earlier today but nobody had responded. I had gone to the dr's & now have been diagnosed I am very sad. I am taking phenytoin 100mg. I got a tordol shot too. This took the edge off. I just need some support.
How rare is TN? I am also asain so I told the dr that I want the blood test to make sure I dont have this rare genetic skin thing from the meds.

Suport please

Mindyandy I gather the the doctor diagnosed you with TN. TN is rare but I don't remember the statistics on it. I don't have any knowledge of the genetic skin thing you are referring to so I can't help you there. What kind of support are you looking for?

Hello Mindy glad you found us . sorry no one seen or replied to your posts before now. I get the idea you have just been diagnosed with T.N.
You had asked in your other post ...
Could TN be caused by a blocked or irritated nerve coming from my jaw that deviates?
Yes if the trigeminal nerve that has compression that can be the cause of T.N.
you have TMJ. do you wear a mouth guard ? have you had any surgery for T.M.J.?
Are you worried about side affect from the medication ? did you get a rash or something after the shot ? how are you feeling now?
You will be okay just try to relax and let the meds start to work this may take 2 or 3 weeks as the meds need to build up before they start working.
we are here for you to help with any questions to listen and of course we are here to support and for support. welcome to the family
keep us posted on how you are doing .
sending calming low pain thoughts to you.
PEACE
BMW

thank you for your warm welcomes. I am not wearing a mouth guard. I actually have nothing for my TMJ. I am waiting for my MRI on Friday to see what the issues is. They are imaging my TMJ also. I do not enjoy having TN. This is painful. I am taking Phenytoin(sp?) & it helps with the big pain. I still get jabs here & there. I have never had this before & am scared because it doesnt seem to be going away

I am glad the medication is helping for the big pain
Most time T.N. can be controlled with meds or surgery like M.V.D. or gamma, or a combo of both surgery and medication. take things one step at a time let the meds build up in your system and your body to adjust to the new meds your on now . it is good you have had MRI it may show the issue and help in getting you to a much lower pain level.
We will be thinking of you on Friday and hope your apt goes well. Let us know how you do.
PEACE

My goodness thank you all for the support. Sure does help. I did have my MRI which was fine. They didn't do my jaw . My pain was full force last night & this morning. Dr upped my Phenytoin to 200mg 3 times daily. So far so good. We will see how long this lasts. I am going schedule an appt with a jaw specialist Monday to see what his opinion is. I sure hope you all are having a pain free day. Thank you for the warm welcome.

it is good to hear an update from you
I am assuming you had MRI done by a Neurologist . what did they say about your TMJ did they refer you to a jaw specialist ? have you ever seen an oral surgeon for jaw issues or is this all new ... how long have you had TMJ i guess i should ask ? I think once the meds are at right dosage and combo it will help and things will settle down . be patient and keep us posted on how things go . low pain and a calm weekend wish for you and yours.
PEACE

Thanks. I have not seen a neurologist yet. They are hard to get into. I am going to make an appointment Monday to get a consultation. One of the doctors I work with believes the irritated nerve is coming from my jaw.
