Hi, I new to the forum.
I've suffered from TN for 6 years now. I beleive it started from a tooth extraction like a number of people here have mentioned. Over the years it has gotten worse. None of the drugs work and most recently I had cryotherapy done. This seemed to help for about 10 months, however I feel I was going into remission at the time. Now I'm in almost constant agony and it's taking forever just to get another consultation (approx 4 months!). My question is this. Most of my pain at the moment doesn't seem to be coming from the neuralgia itself but the spasms hitting my teeth causing a lot of throbbing (one in particular). Has anybody had teeth removed to help reduce the pain. Can this help or make it worse. My thought is that if there's not root to hit it won't hurt. thanks. |

Hi welcome to neurotalk and our T.N. family.
I must say very very loud and firm ... to you and to ALL the readers. IF THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH A TOOTH OR TEETH DO NOT REPEAT DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING DONE TO YOUR TEETH..IT WILL MAKE THINGS WORSE!!!!!!!!!!!! Haveing teeth removed WILL NOT HELP T.N. pain.just the tugging and pulling it will aggravate the trig nerve and could very well damage it . also risk of infection while it heals.. not a wise idea. have you had any other surgery's ??? what has your Neuro or Pain doc offered you as options since meds arent helping and the surgery you mentioned isnt to successful??? I know you say waiting for consult but one of your doc should be able to help either speed that up or do a nerve block . have you ever had a block?? if things get bad GO TO THE E.R. okay. sending low pain and lots of PEACE BMW |

AMEN and HALLELUIAH!!!
Sorry to say that dentists that have not treated TN patients will pull teeth unnecessarily, which can make the situation worse. I have a similar kind of pain that you describe my canine tooth has always been my point of pain. That in turn radiates to the roof of my mouth and down into my lower jaw...So I'm right there with you.. Have you tried using a steroid like low dose prednsone or Toradol?? That's what always worked for me when nothing else could stop the pain...since you have to wait so long (why??) for an appointment, perhaps your GP would be willing to RX a 5 day blister pack of steroids to see if it brings you any relief??? You mentioned having a procedure done,,can you please explain it? Is that when they freeze off the nerves in your face?? if not please explain it for me...Thanks Good luck,,, |
