When I first had the pain, I went to my dentist and he x-rayed my mouth and found nothing wrong with my teeth. He recomended that I see an oral surgeon because maybe the problem was with my jaw. They found nothing - no TMJ, etc. I went to my family doctor and told her where I have been and they all found nothing. By this time, the pain was so bad that eating was a problem (I could not chew, I was on a liquid diet). I could not brush my teeth and sometimes I could not talk. My doctor refered me to a neurologist and I went on Tegretol and with in a few days the pain was gone. It was like a miracle!!!

tn is a shooting lighting like pain in one of three plces on your face. the nerve has 3 branches so your lower line of your jaw, the midline of your cheek or your tepmle and cheek. the pain comes in waves lasts for a few min and stops then comes back, over and over again. eating is a problem. it sets it off. if it were dental i'm not sure what to tell you to look for on that. because mine was tn and not dental. tn is hard to dx dr can only go off what you tell them you feel. and by what drugs do and don't work. i am not an expert just a pt. hope you start feeling better-shelly

I suggest going to a good neurologist or pain management doctor who can diagosis your pain. I think that some TN like pain does start with dental work, or it at least can be aggravated or brought to the surface by it. Try reading all the stickies and go onto the TNA website. Buy the "Striking Back" book and read as much as you can. Be proactive in your health and try to get some answers. Good luck to you and let us know how it goes. You are in a good place. Jen
