I'm very sorry that your wife is in so much pain.

Pain is a terrible thing and when she says she wants to die then she's probably meaning that she's had enough with pain and she wants the pain to go away.

I'm not sure what treatments or medications have been tried and as I don't have TN myself so am not sure what is available.

I just saw your post and needed to reply to you.

If her pain is still so bad she really needs to go back to the doctor.

Miki7,
I'm sorry your Dear Wife is going through this horror. Imagine being electrocuted, or stabbed with burning needles over and over again in one side of your face. That is the misery of chronic TN. It is one of two most painful conditions known to medicine - the other, Cluster Headaches - I also suffer from.
Your Wife must get back to her Dr and change her meds, anti-convulsants can take some of the pain away and Nasal Lidocaine can be effective during Attacks.
I hope this passes quickly, but it needs medical intervention.

Dave.

If she is seeing the same dr all this time, I'd suggest trying some others or see what they may suggest.
Is she going to any sort of pain management specialist?

I am so sorry to hear about the pain your wife is having. You didn't give us any idea what treatments she has tried. There are quite a few drugs and several surgeries that could take her pain away. I had a Microvascular Decompression surgery (MVD) almost 6 years ago and have no pain since. Before that I tried many other things that helped for awhile. Please make sure she is seeing a neurologist who understands the degree of pain she is in. Make sure the doctor knows that she has talked of suicide. That always seems to help get the message through that this is very serious. TN can cause excruciating pain and it must be taken very seriously.

You are right to seek help for your wife that you clearly love dearly. She needs you right now to be strong for her and help her with this. There are a lot of people on this website who can help you with information but they need to know what treatments she has already tried and what medications she is currently taking. Please can you find this out and post it here and someone will help.

Your wife should probably get into therapy right away. Severe chronic pain is very depressing and taxing.

Your wife should probably see a neurologist who has worked with patients who have this illness. If you aren't happy with one you've seen, seek a second opinion.

I am very appreciative of my topical cream that has Gabapentin, Lidocaine and Capsaicin in it. It helps a good amount! Mine has to be specially prepared at a special compounding pharmacy. I have recently discovered one has to check around for prices, because they can vary greatly. A doctor, usually a neurologist, needs to write a prescription for this.

I also take other meds that are helpful including Desipramine, Topamax and Baclofen. These are tablets. They, along with the cream, help a lot.

Elavil, which is like Desipramine, is famous for being very helpful and is a good antidepressant.

I suspect magnesium, and the B vitamins might be somewhat helpful. Also vitamin D3 can sometimes help fight depression.
