Wink Numbness and tingle with TM neuralgia

I'm a bit freaked out as I have feeling in my face as if I've had a local anaesthetic for dental work. My doctor and a maxillofacial surgeon both say this is probably tension causing TMJ because I have a lot of widespread nerve pain in my peripheries. I have had a brain MRI and lumbar puncture to rule out MS but nothing else showed up.

Is this numbness and tingle normal with TMJ or is something more sinister going on? It is more noticeable on left side of my face especially around my gums, lips and left nostril but spreads up into my left eye a bit.

Hi Mat52,

By the way you describe it you sound like it could be a nerve issue. I know that people with TMJ problems can have very widespread pain. But it is also a diagnosis that I got before I was diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia. Have you tried any medication for it? Does it hurt or is it just annoying and strange at this point?

Jane
