Default pain in throat

I typically have pain from near my ear running down my jaw and to the top of my throat. For the past month the pain is only in my throat. I am wondering if this trigeminal neuralgia or something else. It is the exact same pain. Would appreciate any answers. Thank you.

Default Ear to throat

My worst pain is often right in front of my right ear, and it radiates along my jawline, but it does not reach my throat. It also radiates to the top of my cheekbone. Do you have any co-morbidities? Illnesses that you have or had?

I usually wake up with a sore throat that never turns into a cold, since my total thyroidectomy in 2010. Nobody has anything to offer up about that except acid reflux. In fact they at first tried to diagnose my TN as acid reflux aggravating my salivary glands. They changed their minds when I told them that I avoided smiling, it was like a reality check for the intensity of the pain.

Does anybody else have trouble smiling? My facial muscles have been trained so effectively not to smile that if I try the muscles all quiver.

When my TN acts up it hurts to smile......or really move anything on my face. Mine goes from right above my right eye down to below the right side of my nose. The slightest touch is excruciating.

Are you taking any medication for it? I take Trileptal (oxcarbazepine) and I will not be without it.

I suppose the only way you'll know for sure what it is, Amie, is if you go to your doctor and let him know what symptoms you're having. Mine is always in the same exact place whenever it flares up.

And yes, tied, it hurts to smile whenever I'm having an "attack".

I know how painful this condition is so I hope you get some answers soon.

Here is a diagram I found that shows where TN usually affects people.....but everyone is different.

Glossopharngeal neuralgia goes to your throat. Also the jaw.
