Default Anyone tried acupuncture for TN?

Hello I’m new here.
Just got diagnosed with TN in one side of my face 2 months ago.
Been taking medication but it barely helps and it makes me very dizzy/drowsy.
I have an appt for the Gamma Knife procedure in one month. In the meantime I’m going to try acupuncture.
Has anyone had the same experience?
I cannot chew food. For those of you that have a similar experience as me even for longer how do you cope?

Welcome to the NeuroTalk Support Groups.

I just wanted to suggest you try the Search feature. I just did and found many past threads/posts by using the keyword "acupuncture".

p.s. just ran a search on TN forum here for Gamma Knife and there are a few other posts for that as well.

https://www.neurotalk.org/search.php

I don't have TN but I have had Gamma Knife stereotactic surgery for brain mets melanoma.

I'm sorry you're in so much pain. I am wishing you all the best for your procedure.

take care.

I am someone who has tried many many things for TN . Acupuncture has been a regular tool. I ran up credit card till I asked my doc for help. He taught me a short routine to use daily. It was a wonderful gift. He was a wonderful GP. The other 2 main things I use are Charlottes Web medium strength CBD oil topically and I get mini steroid injections in my face , base skull and ear area. I can have the injections every 2 months. This routine works for me now. The weakness of my neck from my Myasthenia Gravis I have to be aware of. Bending down is so risky I have gotten used to cupping my chin with one hand when I do picking up. I had a massage therapist who did this amazing thing at end with my hair. It was like folding chunks slowly back and forth. It would stimulate this release thru my head. My acupuncture person was a trusted GP in our City. The point is it is very important to go to someone respected and trusted to do Acupuncture. Sculptor 44

Hi . Sorry I have poor eyesight. I read your post completely. There was a New NOVA special on Public Television on Cannabis this past week. They specifically noted CBD products on pain as seeming useful for neuropathy. I certainly know this. I at times put small amounts to a generous slathering of the oil on the left side of my face. If possible I would try it. These products are even available at my local HyVee pharmacy now. I do again stick with a product that is processed like medical grade. The GW Company in the UK is discussed on the NOVA piece. Sculptor 44

I have had a lot of success with acupuncture.
About a year ago, I was having daily pain for a month. It was worst when I would brush my teeth in the evenings to the point where I would skip brushing.
I finally decided to get acupuncture and chiropractic (which I should have done earlier seeing as it is my brother that is the chiropractor/acupuncturist).
After my first treatment, I brushed my teeth pain free that night for the first time in a month.
Intensity and duration greatly decreased over the 8 sessions. A few days after the last session, I was in complete remissions for over a year...

Until now.
The pain started up again a week an a half ago.
I am two treatments in, and I have been almost entirely symptom free for the last 3 days.
I was still skeptical after the first round of treatments last year, but I'm hoping these last 3 days aren't just a fluke and that the acupuncture is doing the trick.

Hello can you tell me what routine your Dr gave you to use each day that was helpful please? Was it acupuncture or something else?

We are in St Pete, FL and my wife is in her 7th day of unrelenting T N which is severly limiting talk, eating, drinking liquids. Her T N is constant and it pulses. I don't know how she endures it. What a crappy trick of nature......T N....of all things.

We are just beginning to explore surgery options.

Is your acupucture continuing to help ?

Hi. I'm in St Pete and helping my mom with TN. I am hoping for her to get gamma knife procedure soon. Possibly a block soon too. I'd like to find an accupunturist too in the area. My mom did find temp relief from botox
