I am from the PN forum.
I was dignosed with TMJ most recently, but since i have neuropathy,I was wondering how one can tell the difference between TN,and TMJ. They seem so similar to me? I have pain on both sides of my face and also in my head, and where my jaw joints are. Thank you |

hello aussie, your name looks fimular but we have never met i dont think. so t.m.j. ...
· Pain or tenderness of your jaw · Aching pain in and around your ear · Difficulty chewing or discomfort while chewing · Aching facial pain · A clicking sound or grating sensation when opening your mouth or chewing · Locking of the joint, making it difficult to open or close your mouth · Headache · Uncomfortable bite · An uneven bite, because one or more teeth are making premature contact You may feel pain or tenderness, even when you aren't moving your jaw. But in most cases, the pain or tenderness worsens when you move your jaw. Jaw clicking is common and doesn't always signal a problem. If there's no pain or limitation of movement associated with your jaw clicking, you probably don't have a TMJ disorder. neuropahtic pain geepers I see how all the pains would blend and hard to tell the diffrence between them. Trust me t.n. pain is way diffrent them t.m.j. have you asked your doc about t.n. ??? I hope you find the right answers and controll the pain soon. many blessings aussie! ![]() Peace BMW |

I went to your forum and read the t.n.? thread you have going.
check the stickies up top here! and I will try to explaine best I can. most of the time a T.N. person will learn the "triggers" like change in temp , brezzes wind, a light touch on the face. of corse stress is a big trigger to. The stickies up top will explaine the diffrent types of T.N. and they hold much priceless info! my self I get eletrical "zaps" sometimes it feels like I am being stabed with a knife that is pluged into the ele. socket that is when I am having a flare up . most times it is throbing achy tugging crawly feeling.and numb all at the same time. I am a case all onto myself. Mine from an accident I have 3 plates holding lower jaw, and after the many meds not helping , I was one of first to try a neuo stim. not very many have this for facial pain. for Most usualy it is treated with meds with good results. or other varried opperations. most of what I told you is in the info up top . please p.m. me anytime. ![]() BMW |

Thank you for replies.I did look at the stickies, and still have a hard time figuring it out. There are overlappping characteristics from both disorders. I have alot of cranial pain too. I have sharp pain on the left side and dull pain on the right. There is jaw clicking with me. I did however have pain with opening my mouth fully. I got sharp pains today when I was walking through mall. It felt like an electric drill.
I still don'tknow? The GP says it's TMJ.he said TN is only one sided, and does not affect head. |

okay I would have to down right angerly dissagree with your g.p.
I know of people who have it on both side that will laugh at that g.p. for their ignorance then cry cus so many doc are un -informed or mis -informed. when you have these eletrical drill pain feeling do you notice anything that triggers it? like air conditoner /fan moving air on face touching face. drinking... I had to go to neuro well more then one shoot I had to go to shands in florida to get rx with what I have ...my dang dentist/ my g.p. really dont know what t.n. is and have had to learn about it from me and my other docs. but honestly you know what aussie I hope it is t.m.j. because I would for sure never want anyone to have ANY TYPE OF T.N.! are you just seeing a g.p. about this? maybe they could refer you to a neuro or oral doc??? and be really carefull , people think it is their teeth and end up having tooth work done tryin to rid the pain . that is horrible but happens more then you want to think about! I have you in my thoughts , I hope the right answers come quickly and the ugly pain is controlled. Has your g.p. rx a mouth gaurd for you to wear at night or anything for t.m.j.??? has that helped???? well busy friday today. lots of warm wishes to you. keep learning all you can that is the best thing you can do .. be informed!!!! PEACE Aussie! BMW p.s check out the link I p.m to you. the more info you get the better you are! ![]() Last edited by Burntmarshmallow; 11-09-2007 at 10:15 AM. |
