Default Stroke following MVD

My mom was advised to undergo MVD with the only risk that it might not work for her since she had 5 prior destructive surgeries or possible hearing loss or spinal fluid leak. Well, this has been a nightmare. They think that the movement of the artery caused plaque to dislocate and caused a stroke. We're on day 8 in ICU and it looks like she has quite a long haul ahead. We asked a lot of questions before the surgery and were totally taken aback by this -- Beware.

And most of all this last one sounds so hard and horrible to be going threw! hugs to you for being there for her. Bushels of prayers and blessing to you and mom. I hope she gets well and comes home soon. and you dont forget to get rest and eat and stay strong. take care of you and then the helper in you is better for the job. .

Default So sorry!

Hi! I was 31 at the time of my MVD (1/06) and my surgeon did say that stroke was a complication. I had so many complications and at one point they did an MRI to rule out a mini stroke--I couldn't really use the right side of my body much. I didn't have a stroke, but there was damage to my brain. It seems like they dropped me if you ask me!
Anyways, without getting into it, I had rehab for over 8 months, a second surgery, a staff infection that almost killed me, occipital nueralgia, and menegitis. I just started back at work two months ago, and am still only doing part time. I am still having right-sided issues as well. To say this MVD ruined me would be an understatement. To add insult to injury, the TN is back in full mode.
I am so sorry that your mom is going thru this. Just be there for her, and get second, third, and fourth opinions if you have to. Hopefully she will pull thru and start getting stronger each day.
Let me know if I can be of any help.
Stefanie

Stephanie -- I'm so sorry to hear of your troubles. We really had no idea of the risks -- MVD turned mom's problems into something worse than Tn if that's possible. Hope you continue to improve and do well.
