Default TN and medication - side effects

I have Atypical trigeminal neuralgia. My dental pain specialist wants to try a tricyclic antidepressant called Pamelor to see if it helps. This medication is supposed to have good results for facial neuralgias. Of course I went on-line and a recent study said that this type of anti depressant has been shown to increase risk for lymphoma. Of course I am starting to worry greatly, especially if I take this long term. Plan is to try for a month and see, but even that scares me. How do people deal with medicines and the idea of serious long term side effects in general. It is hard for me to move forward with this in my mind.

Thanks,
Peg
