Just a note to inform those posting here.
It will take me a while to catch up. I will be doing that all the coming week.

Welcome back! Hope you had a wonderful time, and maybe some new photos? We found an amazingly weird orange mushroom growing at a state park... that is probably our highlight of the summer in terms of weird finds. How about you?

We had a miserable time. The weather...cold, wet, windy, dangerous water. We read an article in USA Today, explaining that the Jet Stream got stuck over the Great Lakes. I only wore shorts 4 days! In fact our water thermometer registered 52 F one morning. That is Lake Superior temps for Lake Huron! I read a book series... The Song of Ice and Fire...by George R.R. Martin. More than 4000 pgs... it is an adult fantasy type thing about knights, some magic based on the War of the Roses. Sort of an adult Harry Potter thing. It is being filmed for HBO to start in 2010. Very well written, and very good even though everyone kills each other somehow, etc. Normally I find fantasy kind of superficial, but the character development and writing of these books, is far beyond most other authors. So I retreated into that world and away from the cold wet weather! LOL The fifth book is coming soon, and I am hanging on a thread for it! It is a massive soap opera thing with many hooks to catch you! The fifth book seems stalled, and I want it NOW! HEHEHEH http://www.georgerrmartin.com/if-update.html Here is his website--- look at how many views!! http://www.georgerrmartin.com/ We have those mushrooms too. There is an orange variety, and a yellow. They are waxy looking and very unreal...but we think they are very poisonous too. They come up in August if the moisture is adequate.

Welcome Back!
Sorry the weather was hideous. Yuck. But I bet it was nice simply to get away and get some reading done. I had a fairly nice summer...however it is HOT!!!! So...got a question for you. I read the other day in a "Consumer" magazine that Tumeric is good for memory. Also, read somewhere that it might help a little with weight loss. What say you???? |

The active ingredient in tumeric is curcumin. Curcumin is getting really "hot" now... many studies show it reduces brain inflammation and even inflammation in the blood vessels (it was in a study against Lipitor and beat that out). However, it is poorly absorbed, so you need to choose one with enhanced absorption. Doctor's Best with Bioperine or Curcugel from epic4health.com are two that I know of. Bioperine MAY interact with drugs...since it enhances absorption of many things --nutrients and drugs. I have started a thread about it here: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/sh...ight=Bioperine I don't know about weight loss...but for other issues, curcumin is a very positive thing to try. I am keeping an eye on Bioperine. I think it can be useful for some people. But others may not be able to use it.

The flower is a Gazania daisy. I think they are from Africa.
They don't stay over the winter. I put them up in low bowls and move them on the shore upNorth for color. They are similar to other daisies which grow naturally up there. So they are in keeping the mood the same. This year I did try some zinnia dwarfs. I had mixed results because of the extreme weather. Many of my petunias (which normally do well) rotted! It was so rainy, I only had to water the containers with a can maybe 3 times in 5 weeks! Since we don't have running water, I have to dunk buckets in the lake off the dock and fill the cans by hand which I don't enjoy much!

The next dip in that jetstream is directly below the United Kingdom, bringing all the low pressure systems over us. Its a good job I like wearing rainwear and cooler weather
