I saw in a post that you mentioned if a woman was defienent during pregnancy then the baby may be defiencent. I honestly don't know if I was def then, my daughter is turning 9 in Sept.
Some of the symptoms of b12 def that I have been reading are showing that I may have had this for a really long time... like cronic yeast infections. I also had post partum depression after Amy was born for 5 months. The way I felt then was very similar to how I was feeling when my b12 was checked, depressed, anxiety, nausious, weak. Anyway, my condition could have been a factor back then... but of course I can't prove anything But long point short... do you think that I should have my daughters B12 checked? Or does that sound insane? I know when I mention this to her pediatrican they probably won't take me seriously... and of course she doesn't show any symptoms but as we all know, that doesn't mean anything. What do you think? |

If it bothers you ask for the test.
Mostly babies with severe B12 deficiency fail to thrive. But since you don't know why you are deficient, it may be a hereditary factor, or a gluten intolerance both of which run in families. The B12 has to be pretty low to cause frank anemia to show up. If her fingernails are pink normally, and her inner eyelids are good and pink/reddish, she is probably not anemic. A B12 test is not expensive or terribly invasive. http://www.psychologytoday.com/artic...iciency-danger

Thanks MrsD. She has her well check soon, so I'll ask. I am pretty sure that my def is from stomach problems that I've had since I was 17, she is healthy and thrives very well... she actually grows like a bean stalk and is very smart! lol... don't know where she gets that from
But it doesn't hurt to ask and do? Thanks for your response! have a great day! |

It is good you will know to recognize symptoms of B12 deficiency EARLY should they occur. And she should know to suspect this possibility as she gets older and her medical care will be in her own hands. It could be something that isn't a problem now, but could be in her future.
I think it is totally fair game to ask to have her tested, given your own deficiency. I asked to have my daughter tested . Cara
