Default Can showering wash off Vitamin D?

Hi,
We live in South Florida.
I encouraged Hubby to exercise outside around noon.
Then he came home to take a shower.

I'm concerned about his showering.
Sorry for the dumb question.

Thank you.

No, Vit D is made deeply in the skin, from a cholesterol precursor.
If he has low cholesterol he may not make as much Vit D from exposure as others might.

There is talk of failure to produce ...but I haven't found much good info on that yet, just comments that some people lose the ability to make Vit D over time with age.

Default low-ish cholesterol a concern too?

HI,

Thank you. It is good to know that he can shower whenever he wants.

His total cholesterol is 135 (lab range is 124-200).

His vitamin D was 27 (reference range is (20-200). The doc said it was fine.

Shocked

27 is not fine. It is just above the level to prevent rickets.

Normal is about 50 (40 to 60 ng/ml) and some say now 80 is preferable (if you want cancer prevention).

That poor range is similar to the B12 range in US. People are having terrible times with "normal" levels of 200 which are not normal at all. Other countries use 400 or 500 as the cut off for B12.

This video explains "levels" with clear graphs. 27 is not desirable.
And for living in Florida is very low, in fact.

It is just a shame to go thru testing and get a poor interpretation of the result!

I totally agree 27 is not fine. I prefer to keep mine at 50 to 80.

I live in Michigan, where we do not get a lot of sun in the winter. I have been taking supplements for just over a year now. Nine months ago, I had my levels checked and I was at 39. I recently had them checked again after taking 2000 IU's of Vitamin D-3 for nine months, and I was at 41. My goal is to get into the 60 or better range, so I am taking 5000 IU's of Vitamin D-3 a day now. The hospital lab charges hundreds of dollars for the test, however. Has anyone here tried the test you can order, via, mail, for measuring D levels? It is just $65.00 and comes with instructions for use. I guess you mail in your sample after getting one from a finger poke.

I was wondering about the mail in one too...
I hope someone answers you that 'knows'.
My D level was 10 last week!!
I'm praying this is the answer to my major nerve issues in my feet/ankles/calves.
I'm taking 10,000 iu a day nowto get things up.

This is where one test is available: (along with life saving information)

http://www.grassrootshealth.net/

Also you want to choose the liquigel form for D3, not dry powder tablets.
