Default Dr. Mercola Supplements

Hello,

Does anyone have any feedback on the quality of Dr. Mercola's supplements? I am interested in the Krill Oil, Vitamin D3 spray and the b12 spray.

Ann

P.S. There seems to be a bit of negative feedback on him, so I want some other opinions.....Mrs. D?

Well, look at the prices. I can't go there right now, so I don't have a clue.

Prices reveal quite a bit. I don't really know how good krill oil caps are compared to other EFAs...but I do have a problem with fishing that food, which is needed by whales. Doesn't seem very "green" to me.

B12 doesn't have to be in a spray. Cheap old tablets work fine.
Is that spray methyl form? If not, skip it. Take on an empty stomach...studies show oral works within a month to raise B12 levels.

Same with D3... spray, just increases cost, because you pay for the aerosol pump which is pretty costly. I just looked at it, and it is a premetered spray....very expensive.
This is the D I use for my husband and me:
http://www.iherb.com/Vitamin-D-3-Hig...els/10421?at=0
$8.00 for 4 months supply!

Every once in a while the sprays come out again. Then die off again.
There are D ointments coming out... on RX now. D will be absorbed thru the skin it turns out.

There are people who just have to have a fancy thing. If you can afford it, buy it. For those of us who need and use many things, cost becomes an issue. I buy quality and try to find the most economical sources. Metered pumps are just not necessary for these two nutrients. (they were designed to provide micrograms of steroids for nasal instillation.) The nutrient in a metered pump is pennies a dose, and the pump is over 90% of the cost.

I have mixed feelings about him

he used to be all about good info but now everything leads to a "commercial" for his products or for ones that he seems to have a stake in

I actually unsubscribed from his newsletter because of this!

never have used his products tho so cant say personally what they are like, but I agree with mrsD that such high cost seems unnecessary when there are good pure products available at places like iHerb for much less

I agree with Chemar.

You want to know a little story? At the other forum (BT) before this one was created, I had a thread about EFAs....going way back. I used to use a Carlson brand of fish oil, and posted often about their quality. Dr. Mercola was new back then, and guess what? He picked up Carlson and started advocating it in his online articles, and started posting about it. Even mentioned Costco (which I was also posting about then, as it was new in retail). That was a little too close for me.

I don't like some of his tactics now, with that email newletter thing popping up all the time. But it is not surprising that he would want to make money after all. The doctors on the net all do this to some extent. I sure hope he doesn't come here seeing us discussing him, etc. I think he Googles very well indeed! LOL

Default Quality of supplements

There is a website "consumerlab" which does test and report on the quality of supplements. Some of the products which do not pass their analysis are often the more expensive brands, not the cheapest!

I have taken Dr. Mercola's krill oil for almost a month, and it seems to be an excellent product. I feel great! However, after researching it, I learned that the EPA and DHA values in his product are quite a bit lower than in other krill products. In fact, most of the labels I have seen show Dr. Mercola coming up short, with 150 EPA and 90 DHA, to Mercola's 90 EPA and 50 DHA.

The other products also have a slightly higher phospholipids concentration than Mercola's oil, per gram. At first, I thought this was due to a smaller capsule size, but all of the products I looked at contained 1 gram of krill oil, so the capsule size is probably not the issue.

Dr. Mercola's krill oil is only a little bit more expensive than other brands, and I would not have a problem paying for it if the krill had the higher concentrations, per gram, as the other labels. I am going to switch to another brand because of this as I no longer believe that his product is "the best."

P.S. In the last week, one of my posts on Dr. Mercola's site was removed. I also noticed my avatar (photo) was removed so I put up a new one, which was also removed. This morning, I no longer can gain access to edit my profile on Dr. Mercola's site. Weird.

Apparently, if they don't like what you post, you are gone.
There are other sites like that.

In my post, I was telling a woman who had asked some questions about krill, why I was disappointed in Dr. Mercola's krill (low EPA and DHA values). If you look, you can see that I have posted 4 times on the site, but you can only find three of my posts. The pic/avatar thing is odd, and so is the fact that I can no longer access my profile to edit it.
