The recipe is based on 2 parts Omega 6 to 1 part Omega 3 Substituting the oil would probably not be harmful, but may not be as beneficial. I buy organic Flax Seed oil at Trader Joe's $7.99 for a 16 oz bottle Hope this helps! |

Argh I obviously did not drain the mil of magnesia enough because I have a soupy liquid. How many bottles of milk of magnesia does it take to get 3/4 of a cup of the residue. I will try it again |

Here is a chart showing the various fatty acids in the various oils:
http://curezone.com/foods/fatspercent.asp You can see here that coconut oil is 91% saturated fat. (this is neither omega-3 or 6.) and only 3% omega-6 Flax oil is 58% Linolenic acid... omega-3 and 14% Linoleic acid ...omega-6 and 19% omega 9 monounsaturated (like in olive oil) Flax oil is not 100% omega-3 as some people think. It is just the highest type with the highest percentage of the common oils.

So Mrsd D, maybe I could try a 3-6-9 oil in this recipe.
It funny I was reading that you can get out of balance if overdue one oil. I get alot of energy when I would take the coconut oil supplements. And I find that I feel better when taking a 3-6-9 oil than just a flax. I also do better inflammation wise when I take a GLA/Borage oil. I have to read up on which oil is which, I get confused whats 3 or 6 etc. Also I tested low in oleic oil in a spectracell test I did. I was thinking bout doing a fatty acid test to see what my different levels are. Ok back to our regulalry scheduled magnesium thread. |

Well, Shelley,
Over a decade ago when we started with the oils, I decided to use all 3. Flax, evening primrose and fish oil for this reason. Back then it was new, and testing not easily available. I found after a couple of years, I didn't need the primrose as much so I dropped it. But the GLA in it is important for conversion of the flax Omega 3 to other types in the body. Males tend to have lower conversion than females, as a rule, because we are designed to provide EFAs to babies. It is difficult to say how much of the flax omega-3 is absorbed into the body with that formula with coconut oil, and how much just stays in the skin. This is why I always recommend ORAL for EFA supplements. It is also hard to say how much of the magnesium is actually absorbed or stays in the skin. So keep that in mind. I am unsure if you could rely on skin absorption totally for your EFA dietary requirement. The GLA in primrose is now often found in lip balms and some upscale cosmetics. (they call them liposomes in the fancy stuff). Here is a chart of the breakdown of the fats in coconut oil: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coconut_oil And yes, they would give energy...and improve the stress of glucose as a primary substrate in the mitochondria of cells. This could be helpful for insulin resistance or improving exercise since the lactate load result would be less. (lactate causes pain in the muscles etc).

This link to magnesium and memory popped up on that list and I just moved it here where it seems to fit. But some days I do get up early, but not always!
