Default Magnesium reduces muscle pain

I can now report that taking large daily doses of Magnesium 'Oil" has resulted in much less muscle pain.
I noticed a benefit after a week, but waited to see if it would sustain.
Now, 3 weeks later, I am so much better in this respect.
I take 2 teaspoons of it through the day in water. It has a slightly bitter taste.
I originally took the magnesium powder on a chemist's advice, then changed to the stronger capsules, but have to say I noticed no benefit from either.
However, the Magnesium Chlorate Oil has been totally different.
It is called an oil as some say it has an oily feel when rubbed on the skin-the best way for absorption, but too much of a nuisance for me.
It is really just concentrated deep sea water, full of minerals.
I read that it is estimated that 70% of people are magnesium deficient, and so may be suffering muscle pains as a result.
For anyone in that position, I can honestly recommend this supplement.
You take the max dose until you get the benefit, then drop down to a small dose.

I'd stop using this orally ASAP. It could be eroding your stomach or intestines. PLEASE... stop it ASAP.

I thought last night that I had it wrong, and sure enough when I checked it is magnesium chloride, not chlorate.
My daughter has researched it extensively, and from what I've read it is safe to ingest.

Chloride is okay. Whew! Chlorate is not.

The only down with chloride is that it is laxative if you take high doses. Some people can't tolerate that.

In US we have a delayed acting Chloride version called SlowMag, which is what I often use. I also use a powder that mixes into a liquid called Ionic Fizz...this has magnesium carbonate in it, and really works fast. When I need fast action, say due to some muscle problems, I use it instead of the SlowMag. SlowMag is my daily RDA form. It was originally developed by a the drug Company Searle, and now Purdue owns it, for cardiac care, but it is OTC and available for anyone to use without a prescription.

We had a person once come on saying in Britain he was taking snow melter--the stuff you throw on your icy sidewalks .. which I think would not be pure enough for oral use and may have heavy metals in it! So I do watch threads here carefully because of that possibility.

Thanks Mrs D for your watchful eye!
I have just received an email reply from the oil supplier, saying that they cannot say it is for internal use in Australia as they cannot support the benefits with any proof, but pointed our that in some other countries they can.

They supply a base oil and a gel.

I cannot believe the benefit I've received from the oil. Muscle pain has virtually stopped!!!
Just have to be careful now and pace myself, as it is easy when you feel better to try to catch up.

I am glad the magnesium is working for you. I've been using it for leg cramps for over 10 yrs. Whenever we overdo in the garden or some other job and get sore, we up our magnesium too. That is why I have a long thread on this forum about it.

Most people are below daily RDA levels and are running on that low level, and having many problems, including muscle pain.

Almonds have alot in them, and I like to do that too, since I get loose easily from magnesium supplements. 3oz has 270mg.
That is why I like the SlowMag, as it doesn't cause that laxative thing for me like others do.

You will want to be careful though with high doses, and make sure you get a renal panel now and then at the doctor's to make sure your kidneys are handling it okay. As kidney functions decrease with age, handling magnesium may become a problem if you are taking high doses of it.

Thanks, Mrs D, I am so pleased with the magnesium. I'm sleeping much better from it as well.
I've reached the 'loose' stage so will now drop down to a tiny dose. I think that is how you gauge when to stop or slow down.
